Adjusting Auto Turn-off Headlights

Hey guys,

I have a pretty basic question to ask, whenever I leave my lights either on the "Parking Light" function or "On" function and turn off the car it takes two minutes for the lights to shut off. Just wondering if there is anyway to shorten the time it takes for the lights to turn off (example: shut off in 30sec once the car is turned off). If it makes a difference this is for a 2006 Evo IX MR. I searched but didn't find anything.

Thanks,
Brendan

Yup, my IX does the same. No auto headlights either, just a good ole switch.

Yup I timed it, two minutes everytime unless like everybody else I open the door.

Same, but I'd rather not open my door after the car shuts off as it disables my autostart. Especially in this weather we're having, autostart is a lifesaver.

Same, but i've timed mine to be two minutes. I'm just trying to see if there is a way to change it so the lights shutoff after about 20 or 30 seconds.

So you're trapped in the car? I don't follow.

Are the lights remaining on causing any type of issues for you, or is it just a personal preference thing?

Did your car always do this? Guessing you didn't buy it new being in Canada and noticed you said your auto-start. Did you install it, have a shop do it, or did the previous owner install/have it installed???

It could be something that set into your alarm/remote start system. Mine has a bunch of configurable options. Get the manual for it and check options and settings.

Nope I had the alarm installed after I purchased the car. And yes I bought it used. It always took 2 minutes exactly for my lights to shut off once I turn off and exit the car. I'll check with my installer and see if there is anything he or I can do.

I meant it defeats the purpose of having autostart, because in order for autostart to be enabled once you turn off the car, get out and close the door behind you the door can't be opened again. I must have read wrong, but I thought I read why not just open the door again after getting out and closing it a second time. So what I meant was after the car is armed, and I open and close the door again so the lights are off it disables my autostart. That and it's pointless to open and close the door again, it'd just be easier to turn my lights on and off manually.

Why aren't you doing that to begin with?

I think i get what you are saying. Let me break it down in a step by step sequence.

1. Park car and turn off engine
2. Open door and exit vehicle
3. Shut door
4. Set alarm/lock doors
5. Lights stay on 2 minutes

If this is correct then your wiring is incorrect somewhere so start chasing down the gremlins or improper electronics install.
