Ok. I was just concerned because someone in this thread mentioned that you can't mix the fuels at all. If I was going from 93 octane to e85 I would definitely take more precaution and run it way down or empty the tank.

I bought my car with e85 tune. I personally dont like it. Its all about how much power you are going for, imo. I am running the hta green, making 430whp. I can make close to that on pump, which is why I am thinking of switchin back. That and the fact of driving long distances. I for one, know that alon I80, for the trip to the shootout, there is like NO e85. So I would have to take cans full of it in the trunk with me. I know a few friends who did that this year. I would rather just be able to fill up with 93 and call it a day.

As for mpg's. I know the evo isnt a tree hugging gas saver, , but I get about 12mpg. When I was dd it a few months this winter, i had to fill up twice a week. F that. Its not soo bad right now, since I picked up a 97 camry to dd. In the end, I think if you can make your power goals safely on pump, just keep it.

Just my opinion.
Anthony

12mpg, wow!

Long distance driving was my concern too.
And, I'm not too sure Fed will continue to subsidize corn prices for E85. Corn prices just about doubled in a year and keeps going up!

1k investment may not be that wise...for now.

Ya 12 is just crazy talk...I average 19...

And gas prices are getting any better e85 here is 2.69 and 93 is 3.39...so .70 doesn't seem like alot but it really is over time...plus the added power is what makes it worth it...

And honestly my 93 tune has nothing on my e85 tune...I couldn't possibly make the power that I am with e85...there's no comparison...93 is good...but not that good.

I dont see you saving any money running e85. It consumes 30-40% more fuel. Its cheaper, but in the end, your still payin about what you would pay for 93. My last white evo had an ams tune on 93 pump, I got 23mpg with it. Maybe the tune on the car needs some adjusmtent. Which I will be taking to Devin at boomba this spring to change anyways.

Dont get me wrong, if I had a build that really benefited from running e85, I would, no doubt. But for my goals, which now are to get the same power its making on pump. E85 just isnt worth it to me. If I had a built motor, where I could run higher boost, be more endless with power, I would be running E85, cause then its either that, or race gas.

Show me a car that makes the same power on 93 as it does on e85...with a proper e85 I don't see it as possible.

Talking to my Autos teacher today about switching over to e85, his only concern was the fuel lines and gas tank getting corroded/junked up.. any thoughts or personal experience with this guys?

E85 really only uses aout 25-30% more. If you do the math in most places E85 is almost the same price as 93. Example from earlier, $2.70/gal E85 x 1.3 (130% fuel) = $3.50/gal just a little bit more than regular pump but easily makes way more power when tuned for it. Only cons is you need a fuel system to deliver the fuel needs so you pay a little more when upgrading. Well worth the costs of E85.

Check out the alternative fuels forum for more info, however, I think your teacher is probably confusing methanol with ethanol as far as corrosion is concerned.

Most people are getting around potential gunk in the injectors and engine by either running an inline fuel filter on the fiel line (recommended) or simply running a tank of 93 octane for every couple tanks of E85, which will do the trick but may cause "hot spots" on the pistons.

SInce I've ran my evo its seen pump gas for the 1st 3 months I've owned and once on a long trip. I did manage to get some E on the way.

I've had my car on E for almost 2 years and it is by far the best mod you can do to your car.

I have a map switch and when switching from 93 to E85 I run it down as low as I dare and then take it easy for the first half of a tank and for the rare occasions I switch from E to 93 I let it rip....timing and boost is way lower on the 93 map as opposed to the E85 maps.

And cost wise its about the cost of running 93 but you get an xtra 50 to 100 hp..............plus its mostly a US industry so no more giving the middle east our wealth.

Buschur said he has tuned cars on winter blend and the difference was pretty small.
