Rear Wiper Conversion/Swap: Anyone actually do this?
I'm looking to swap out my rear wiper with everything needed for a 100% OEM swap including glass, depinned wiring, column switch, washer reservoir, etc. From my searching I haven't really seen it done this way. It's usually just deletes and not the other way around. Has anyone added a rear wiper to a non-wiper Evo?
One of my concerns with this swap is with the ETACS-ECU, which is the red block that is piggy-backed onto the dash fuse block. The ETACS-ECU handles a couple things like the door locks, various alarms, time, keyless entry and such. The rear wiper and washer relays are also inside of that unit. I'm trying to figure out if the RS ETACS-ECU has the ability to control rear wipers. From my searching I found three part numbers that came up for the Evo:
MR530918
8637A012
8637A323
I'm guessing that they correspond to something like this:
Power locks with keyless
Power locks without keyless
Manual locks
I'm pretty certain that if I swap ETACS-ECU with an RS I will lose power locks and keyless entry. So forget that. It would be nice to know if the RS ETACS-ECU still came equipped with rear wiper control, but unless someone has seriously looked into doing this, I doubt anyone knows this information. Maybe some of the guys who have done power doors/locks conversions know...
An easy test would be to swap out the column switch for one with reap wiper controls and test the rear washer motor pin. From my wiring diagrams it's on the white connector (C-227) on the ETACS-ECU and it's the third one up from the bottom in the front row (pin 23). It should be empty on an RS or perhaps better yet have a black wire with a white stripe (which means it's at least pre-wired for rear wipers). If there is a voltage output when the rear washer switch is pressed, then that means there's a relay for the rear washer.
So if there's a relay for the rear washer, then it's very likely there's a relay for the rear wipers and we are in business. If this works out, it's a pretty simple swap; otherwise the rear wiper recipient will have to get a hold of a different ETACS-ECU to make this work. It should work either way, but having to deal with getting a different ETACS-ECU is kind of a pain.
Even though I want to delete my wiper, I'd like to know what I'm up against for a swap. I'm doing this for the look and I don't want to just plug up a hole in my glass. I want RS glass.
BTW I'm in Florida if anyone is interested in this swap. Hit me up...

I'm amazingly confused by this; it sounds like you want to swap your rear wiper with..a rear wiper? You say you want to swap for the RS ECU and are wondering if it has wiper controls...but then at the end you say you want to delete your wiper?
OP do you have an RS and want a wiper (You'll need GSR/MR Glass and wiper bits)
or
A MR/GSR and dont want a wiper (You can install RS rear glass or simply remove wiper bits and plug yours)
It's actually pretty confusing: OP wants to add rear wiper to his RS, or delete his rear wiper??
I have done it ( add rear wiper to JDM RS), my car was pre-wired for it, and the ETACS was rear wiper ready. It might be different for the US-Spec RS, take your ETACS unit out and read the label, it should say if it's ready for rear wiper or not.

I am removing the rear wiper from my car.
I want to accomplish this by actually swapping glass with someone who wants to have a functioning rear wiper on their RS.
I am doing this so I don't have a plugged hole in my rear window. That looks like poo.
I am also going for an AMS carbon fiber roof, which I believe requires glass removal anyways.
I am trying to coordinate all this in the most economical way possible.
I wanted to know if the ETACS-ECU was going to be problem with the swap.
I think I got my answer though.
Thanks.
Anyways, who wants a rear wiper on their RS in Florida?

I read my first post again... I think what started the confusion is that somehow I deleted two sentences in the first paragraph before I posted it. It all would have made more sense if I didn't do that. Silly me.
Ok. Yea just get the RS rear glass then or have it made by a glass company with no hole.
As far as the ETACS-ECU, don't worry about it as it would be as if you unplugged the rear wiper motor obviously
