Evo 8 Odometer?
Evo 8 Odometer?
Hello guys, I'm new to Evo family, I'm thinking of getting an Evo 8 2003 with 18,600 miles on board. The car looks good, sounds good, tested it with someone who knows Evos and tunes them - he has an Evo 9. He told me the mileage cannot be tampered with to roll it back. How true is that?
The car was brought from the U.S. in Europe in 2008. It's full option, the engine looks great, sounds good and it is stock. The only thing that was removed is the cat... and the turbo is making max. boost (up to 1.6) on the high revs - it has Mitsubishi gauges for oil temp, boost and voltage on board.
Thanks for your help!

I work at Toyota, so I'm giving youy opinion off those. You can't mess wight the odometer on the digital ones as far as reprogramming them. The manufacturer of the odometer has to do it. We have shops that will set manual odometers, tho not digital ones. However, if someone was premeditating there mileage you can still pull your speedo gear plug and with no speedo working your mileage won't change. One of the techs I worked with did that on his Honda for years. So basically it's up to how shady you think the person you bought the car from was. Look it over, mainly wear parts, that you can't hide. How worn do the seats and arm rest loon, how are the floor mats, brake caliper paint, at that low of mileage stock tires could easily still be there. Hopefully it's good but it's hard to know for sure.
Im pretty sure that the only way you can tamper with the mileage is to replace to entire gauge console from a different car. I would check the vehicle history report. If thats good i wouldnt worry about it unless there is something making you think otherwise.
Thanks for your thought, I'm noob to Evos. The car interior looks really good for its age, the steering wheel leather looks a little worn, but not by much, the seats are good, the floor cover is great, the mats as well. The brake calipers have the lacquer gone.
Well my 05 has 30k on it, the calipers still look good and the steering wheel as well as the interior look great. However the 03 and 04 seem to wear worse. I think if you feel the car is legitimate and you trust the seller I wouldn't try to worry about it. I mean no matter what the car is 8 years old. I say do what u want to with it and truly enjoy it!
Thanks again! The car was late '03 production, was a showroom car and was sold in 2004. If I can, when I can, I will try to take some pics of it. The consumption is 18 liters per 100 km, or, in the US terms, about 13 mpg. I know the seller through a buddy I know and trust.
