Why do EVO owners keep their cars with such low mileage?
I've always had multiple enthusiast vehicle's and have learned to stay alive by enjoying my toys in the right time and place!! Yeah, I can ride my GSXR 1000R/500whp EVO everyday in traffic as a daily driver but is that fun now? Maybe, when I was 21 and thought I was invinceable!! I'm lets just say alittle bit more mature now and have been there, so my DD is comfortable, quiet, and gets reasonable mpg. So when I do take one of my garage queens out its like a switch goes on and its time to play!! LOL!! I have only 17K on my 06 EVO 9 RS and its gone through the mod process and really is an awesome car to drive. But I live in Cali. in SF and this is not a fun car for the stop and go street/hills! So it stays in garage until grudge nite at Infineon or TNT at Sactown Raceway! I drive a 27yr old Supra w/leather seats power everything and a sunroof for DD duties, and three sportbikes for those other days in between!
I see my Evo as my "fun" car, thus driving to work in traffic isn't fun. I just hit 24K on my 06, and it's not really an issue of trying to keep miles off of it...but more the type of miles I put on it. Given stop and go traffic isn't great for a motor, clutch, etc. I figure I'll save the Evo for fun drives on the backroads and laps at Thunder Hill.
As others have said, I plan on being buried in this car...so I'm going to have it for a long time. Since brakes, tires, and other wear parts on this car are somewhat expensive it seems like a shame wasting them on commuting. Plus, I like having a 2nd car for when I'm working on a project or maintenance on the Evo.

Driving to work is just that. Just driving there is work

The evo is for fun not work. I hate driving in city traffic in the evo, not only is it not fun but even after a short time my knee starts to bother me (bad knees).
I didn't read the entire thread but my input it.
First, most EVO owners bought the cars as toys. They didn't make a million EVO's and ship them to the USA, so while they may be fun to drive they are not easily replaceable. I'd rather keep mine nice and use it as a toy than wear it out driving to the grocery store and running errands in it. My '04 RS has just over 10,000 miles on it. I've got a few other toys with even less mileage, '08 Shelby with 1700 miles on it and a new 5.0 Mustang with 900 miles on it, it's going on a year old.
My F250 is barely two years old and has 24,000 miles on it, it's what I drive mostly, it's what I don't cry about if it gets a scratch in it, if the floors are dirty or when it snows and rains. I've washed it maybe 10 times since I had it.
I like to keep my nice cars nice and my work cars used up!

I Daily drove mine for a while + tracked it and DD was wasting my Good tires, brakes oil etc..
sure doing random pulls and hitting open on ramps hard is fun but for the amount of time i can't do that....its just not worth the wear and tear.
I drive quite a bit ..and as of almost a year ago i stopped DDing the Evo and have never regretted my decision. Now when I do drive my Evo I appreciate it a lot more
unfortunately I did not buy my evo with low miles and DDed it for a year so I'm @ 82k on my 06 but I'm trying to avoid 90k likes its the plague
the only time my Evo gets driven now is to on and from the track

Ive had my Evo X SE for 6 months and only have 5K on it. The majority of that is road trips (GA to south TX and back) but not much driving around town. I also have an 04 Acura RSX Type-S that I DD with 120K+ miles, and thats including 6 deployments since Ive had it. The Evo looks pretty sitting in the garage.
Don't really care about the mileage on my Evo anymore. It's at almost 70k. I don't even remember 'cause I don't drive it much anymore. Wanting to take it to the track once my job gives me weekends off. Biggest reasons not to drive the Evo are that gas prices are ****ty and it's just not fun sitting in stop and go traffic with it. Got a CRX for commute beater and have a bicycle for around town. Evo is for fun.
if you buy a car for its performance....use it DDing an evo is not really using it
to keep them looking clean... and mine is always getting something changed up..lol . right now its a full color change. when i get tired of that color(wich is probably in a couple of months ) ill change it again.
As a friend of mine said once "cars were made for one reason -to be driven!" Of course he was the same guy who also said "don't change your wheels, they might fall off" this was on the day I was rotating my tires on my old Celica...
I assume that higher priced cars may lead to more owners taking better care of the car and attempting to keep the mileage down.
All conjecture on my part though.
I turned mine into a dedicated track car over a year ago, so that will explain my low mileage.
Using the 4RETECH analogy:
I keep my wife in the basement and take her out once and a while for wild orgies.

Wow definitely cool to hear everyone's reason for having such low mileage and what you use your EVO for. For me personally, I find my EVO is like the model cars I used to play with when I was a kid, but obviously in real life 1:1 scale lol. I like putting on classy mods and admiring them in the garage, but it is always nice to know you can take your car out and rip around.
I know most guys in Canada enjoy their EVO and put a lot of mileage on them, hence there are basically no low mileage EVO's in Canada unless you are looking to pay a premium (we weren't lucky enough to have the chance to buy them like you guys in the US!).
I thought having 40k was low, but after hearing all of you guys I'm amazed!
