Why do EVO owners keep their cars with such low mileage?
Pretty much this. I lease a DD and also own a motorcycle.
Although I somewhat 'baby' the Evo, I absolutely love to drive it in inclement weather. I have an '06 that's approaching 19K miles. If not for this past winter's blizzards (which I had a blast in, passing stuck SUVs and supposed 'heavy duty' vehicles) I'd probably only have about 17K.

I drive my truck when I need to haul something large. I drive my Camry when I want something comfortable to drive my family around the city and/or state. I ride my Z1000 when I want to drag my knee through a turn on a motorcycle. I ride my Busa when I want to trap 150's at the drag strip on a motorcycle. I ride the CR when I want to take my kid to the MX park. However, most often you'll see me and usually one of my sons riding around in a 03 Monte Carlo that my wife bought new, hasn't driven in nearly a year, but refuses to sell.
It's not just Evo owners...most true car enthusiast develop a relationship with their cars that non-enthusiast just can't quite comprehend. The best way I've seen it described is in: Love The Beast.
I've had my 06 since 07 and have only clocked 4K miles on it. since then. It's a fair weather weekend car that I like to take to car shows, the drag strip, and on spirited drives. On average I drive 4K miles a month and I believe I'd hate my Evo if I used it as a commuter. What's the point of driving a 500hp ( my current tune) AWD car in stop and go traffic that never gets me past 3rd gear? Likewise, 3-4hrs driving straight down the highway at 80 isn't exactly what Evo's were intended for by design.

. It's true, it is something that can not be really explained, I have a hard time describing my passion to friends and family. Especially when people give the old expression "A car is meant to be driven". I mean it is true, but to an extent and how it is driven.

If you have Netflix & some time to spare; it won't disappoint.
It's actually refreshing to know that I'm not crazy when I go out of my way, through the laundry room, to simply open the door into the garage...see my 'Eva' & think "wow, she's all mine".

To the OP, Evo's don't need much in the way of exterior mods. Maybe wheels, a vortex generator (if your car didn't come with one), a shorter antenna and some other small stuff that flows with the car.
I bought mine in december of 2010 with 32k on it, and today it just hit 69k. I'm buying another car and letting the Evo sleep for the winter. I don't know how some people never drive their cars. I spent just under $25k on mine...so you bet i'm going to drive and enjoy it.

'05 with 85k. Seen snow, rain, mud, sand, bird crap, rocks and clear is peeling.
Not gonna pay close to $300/month on insurance for it to sit. Besides problems build up when cars sit, especially evos they're so damn touchy.
But I can understand if the car is built up, then to DD it is a pita.
And to the exterior part, cause the tuner they bought was cheap to begin with and the owner had some extra $ to spend on rice. You buy an Evo for peformance and that's what you get. With an Evo you want to spend the $ on performance parts.
While it seems, at least where I am the days of ricer body kits have come to an end.

03 with 18k..its just not a comfortable car i want to get in and drive everyday to work. When the evo does get driven..it gets driven hard. its more enjoyable this way. the evo is now more of a toy and continuing project.
I just bought my VIII with 57k on it. I have a beater car on it's way out and a truck as well, so I don't see putting a whole lot of miles on it.
Then again, it's hard NOT to drive it. It's only been a week, but not once have I driven it without a giant grin

"To me", my evo is a fun occasional car to drive. That is one reason why it has low mileage. The second is that it is about to have 1100ish hp at the crank, and I don't feel like driving it around on fuel that cost $10 gal. all the time.
