Put in Sunroof or Not?

I guess if you're really short and/or use a low-rider driving position it wouldn't really matter.

After-market sunroofs are nothing but trouble. After about 3 years the hardware is shot and they begin to leak. I made that mistake - once.
The factory sunroofs are a better option, but like everyone has said - they add weight, remove headroom (slightly), and take away some body rigidity from the car. I wanted an Evo w/o the sunroof, but every Evo that came to the 2 dealers in our area were loaded up so I had no choice (patience ain't in my vocabulary).

1. It may void your warranty. We know that Mitsubishi is griping about it already. You're not helping your cause.
2. It will reduce headroom.
3. It may develop leaks as the car gets older.
4. It may develop electrical problems.
5. It will add weight.
6. It costs $$.
7. It reduces torsional rigidity of the chassis.
8. Questionable build and install quality.
9. It may rattle.

I've been wondering why the factory sunruff is so darn narrow. On my Porsche 928S4, it had a really narrow sunroof as well. In that case, it was because of a structural member that wne t across the roof, and the sunroff could only be big wide enough to fit in between the roof area between the fron widsheild and that structural member. I'd bet the Evo is the same way. If that's the case, I'd be horrified to find out they cut that structural member to make room for some nice big, generic sunroof.
Also, be careful about the term "sunroof". What if it's some nasty pop-up sunroff AND they cut your structural member to fit it as well. That would be a terrible thing to happen to your nice new Evo.
Given the risks of them doing something stupid, and that even when done right, aftermarket sunroofs suck, I'd run for the hills.

I did not get one and I don't wish I had it after a year with the car. Race cars don't need a sun roof! I think it goes against the purpose of this type of car. I had an Integra Type-R and I also did not get one installed on that car, never missed it there.

i couldn't live without my sunroof. I can't imagine that the 30 lbs it adds really degrades your performance THAT much. if you want one, get it! i'd had buddies who got them put in and never had a problem. just make sure Mitsu warranties the install for the life of your normal warranty.
whats the weather like in Charlotte? that could be a determining factor. if it rains all year, you wont use it. but if its nice out, but not hot enough for AC, it definately comes in handy!

Sunroof
I will always get a moonroof in my cars (sunroof pops up, moonroofs slide in). I am 5'5" and head room is never an issue. Plus I know I'm never going to be in a race or on a track and blame my loss on a moonroof.
Regarding aftermarket moonroofs, I had a '93 Mustang Cobra that I bought new. It did not come with a moonroof so I went to ASC to have one added. The guy told me that Mustang roofs flex and that it derails moonroofs. He said I'd be back in the shop every two weeks to have the moonroof put back on track.
must have done something right. There are tons of complaints about our Evo's, but I don't recall anybody saying that roof flex derailed their moonroof. Torsional rigidity

I use my sunroof almost every day. I leave it popped up when I park to let the heat escape. Ours aren't too narrow Roberto, I had a sunroof on my Spec-V and it was only about half the size of the Evo, and my roommate has a prelude and it's even narrower than that.
I'm talking about narrow as in a front-to-back of the car kind of way. I rode in an Evo with a moonroof, and it was puny! A little more of an opening than my 928 was, but way less than my Civic was. I'll go look at a Spec-V moonroof, and I'll be shocked if I see it open about half as much as an Evo. It's gotta be at least as big as the one in an Evo is, or ti would just not be worth it at all imho.
I like moonroofs, and would have gotten my Evo with one, but they are just too small to be worth it for me.
