Lifter noise questions
Lifter noise questions
I know this has been covered alot but I just wanted to get some opinions. So did the first oil change since I got my evo yesterday. after i changed it it started ticking kind of loud. This is what i heard. The oil level has to be perfect or it will create air bubbles in the valve cushions and cause ticking. Car does have hks 272's. Anyone heard anything different?

Did it tick only at start up and then go away? If its still ticking you will have to remove the noisy lifter to clean it out. Ticking from the lifters doesn't damage anything but can get annoying
No it didn't go away. I honestly didn't hear it on start up. I started driving it and noticed it a few miles later. It does it alot a idle but it gets faint after that. Still idles perfect even with my big cams. The previous owner said it goes away after a while and has done it when oil is changed if you are a bit low on oil but wont go away if oil level is to high... He said there is a thread about it but I cant find it. Anyone seen it before?
That doesnt make sense. As long as you have oil pressure it doesnt matter on the oil level. Unless its very low and you take corners fast, brake hard or launch hard causing the oil pickup to starve for oil. In this case the oil wouldnt make it to the lifters and cause them to tick untill it gets oil pressure again.

It probably does go away after a week but I dont think oil level has anything to do with it. I dont remember ever seeing a thread on this. Lets see what other people say about this.
come on man , think logic ,
If the car did not tick , when you got it , and you change your oil , and the oil is the correct amount , and you se the corrent amount on the oil stick ,
there is no way it would be your berings in the enginge , so relax.
This cars are very sisitiv of what kind of oil you use,, I Use Motul 300V 5W40W racing oil full syntetic in winter , and 10/50 OKQ8 F1 full synteic ,, oil in the summer ,
Im pritty sure its only a lifter that has jamed , and that is what will start your ticking noise,
My evo 6 tme did the same thing i change to lifter whit 3mm hole , called JANSON LIFTERS . google it , theay are realy good ,
after the change my car stared to tick like hell ,, wo i was whinking what the **** , but is normal , after som miles of driveing when the oil got in every little spring and hole , the engine is now quiet.
so please relax,
worst case you will have to change your lifters , and thats done in 2hrs ,
