Cam gears explained?

Can any one explain to me the benefits or any kind comparison between different cam gears. I just picked up GSC S2s and Springs and was wondering what if any cam gears to look at? I understand they can move the power band around a little. Has any one personally compared AEM vs HKS vs BC ? or anything like that?

i know that most of them are lighter than stock cam gears. the lighter the valvetrain is the less torque it takes to rotate the cams and cam gears. im sure you prob wouldnt notice a huge difference switching them out, but every little bit helps imo. besides that i dont see any other benefit from being able to adjust them.

I've heard that they slightly advance or retard your timing accordingly depending on what set you pick up.

I am installing my S2's and springs with stock gears. I went through the cam gear searches a couple weeks ago and no real benefit with S2's. They perform well straight up on stock gears. Buschur also recommends stock gears.. I would be worried about the gear slipping out of time even though that might never be a problem..

I also felt that it was 200 bucks better spent elsewhere.

We also recommend stock gears, unless you have a 4g64 block based build...

I use cam gears only to degree my cams to their specs as with a block and/or head that has been milled will throw off the angle of the cams once everything is bolted together. On my Revolvers, I had to advance the exhaust cam a few degrees and retard the intake 22~ degrees to have them "straight up". The intake was off due to quality issues but I believe any build should have the cams degreed make sure everything is spot on. Working with Jestr over a month to get my car to start and idle properly and running out of options, I'll start swapping my stock cams and gears back in tonight to see if they may be an issue.

thanks feddie and MCM i appreciate the input. That is what my buddy kept telling me, then i go on here and it seems like every one has them from pics at least. then the same friend told me to look closer at the pictures and notice almost all of them are set at 0*, and they are for show. so i too will be sticking with the stock gears. :-)

And the funnny thing is..unless you get a clear cover for another hundred bucks... you can't even see the gears, so there isn't much show to be had..lol
