Lets say for some reason you think there's air in the cooling system but you are wrong. In this situation, when the coolant climbs up the funnel and the thermostat opens, the coolant in the funnel just stays there. With an actual coolant funnel you insert the plug and dump the expanded excess into the reservoir. With a regular funnel you got a mess.

Normally we wouldn't be going through this process unless we've drained the cooling system and know that there is air in the system. About the only time our cars overheat is when there is a head gasket problem and then there constantly is air in the system.

 

Leaking head gasket.

If your headgasket is sealed like it's supposed to be, you don't need a funnel.

 

Get OEM hoses and clamps. They're not that expensive and they'll last another 10 years. I chased coolant leaks forever, after initially replacing the turbo water lines with 3/8 hose and worm drive clamps. Finally went back to OEM hose and clamps there after going through just about everything, and no more leaks..

 

Thanks.i fixed this a while back. The guy above you bumped it for some reason. It was the coolant hose going to my turbo had a little split in it.

 

Well, if you used aftermarket hose and clamps, look there first if any leaks come back in that area...lol

 

Hoses pop for no other reason than too much pressure.
That's just a symptom of another cause which causes other symptoms as well.
