I really LOVE the blue one, but tape or no tape the white one looks identical to the yellow one at the Vegas show and both of those look like they have the ground effects from the blue one installed upsidedown. But hey, it's still an Evo, it's going to kick *** and body kits can be changed.

GOD HELP US. What is it with that front end??? Of course leave it up to Japan to ruin the original look of the JDM version. Just like they did with the US version DC2 Integra. They couldnt leave it alone...they had to give us the focal headlight version. Same with the new Civic Si, that ugly godforsaken car. Terrible front end design. GOD HELP US.

Man, If thats the final look of the EVO, I wont buy it. That **** is ugly as ****. I hope that they make some serious changes to it. I actually like the JDM version of the VIII better on that mag cover. But the US one is slightly different, but hella ugly.

Like my mother always said....Good things come to those who wait. STi, here i come.

I couldn't agree with you more. I hate all the new cars that have been coming out. Nissan ruined the maximas looks, honda killed off the good looking (and faster) civic si (the new one is almost as bad as the insight), killed the looks of the eclipse(and turbo/awd option, not that the V-6 is bad,and quality is alot better, but it's no where near as fast), Pontiac has got the Aztec(enough said), the list goes on and on. No doubt alot of the cars improved in terms of quality and in some cases even a little extra HP, however it seems that cars are getting overall worse in either the way they handle, accelerate and/or look. No longer does the S come with any real sport or the R come with some Real race parts.
Minivans and SUV's even are trying to put spoilers on thier cars.

Enough *****en. We're all here for our love of a car that up until now has always improved on the track and has truely lived up to its name. If screws it up then more then likely we'll find another car to obsses about (hey maybe even an STI) and we'll all continue doing what our hod rod forefathers didn't do; love a car for the cars performance, looks, and quality. Not just because its a ford or chevy.

my 2 cents

OMG, I just hope that they will bring the VII to the US... but as it stands, the only EVOs that will be coming here are the VIIIs which look a hell of a lot uglier (seem to be changing so much from the originals). I can live with the VII, the front looks ok, but damn, what the hell did they do to the front of the VIII?

Wow. I didnt realize a grill madepeople flip out this much. Yes much is different on the VIII, but people seem to be focusing on the Pontiac like grill the most. ALl I have to say is to each is their own, but please keep your opinion that you wont buy the car. It will make me that much happier when I dont have to wait as long to trade in my OZ for an EVO, and I might actually be able to purchase for sticker price. I dont know about anyone else, but for me EVO means 4G63, AWD, and the ability to embarrass some expensive peices of machinery.

the grille is more a big hole than a pontiac thing.
tho, in typing that sentance above i realized how they wanted to keep it on the d/l that it was the new evo prolly. either way. i think the wheels look too little.

I agree about the grill... I was really disappointed about the pontiac resemblance. I actually had a deposit down for what I thought was going to be an evo7. I really dont like the looks of the 8 at all, I think if i had to choose between the two i would now get the new sti that will be coming here. Add the looks of the 8 to the fact that it 'probably' wont come with the goodies that the jspec 7 has and it looks even less attractive imo. I was considering getting a 7 from EI, at a price of 36, but 40k for a 27k car is too much. (Yes i realize they need to recoup their costs etc) In response to tristar racing, if all you about is performance and not cosmetics, maybe you should try to special order yours in hot pink metallic with green polka dots. Kidding around of course. I care about performance most of all, but i'd be lying to say that I didnt care a good deal about the looks of the car. And accordingly, i think i would probably cringe every time i walked out to my car and had to look at that horrid front end on the 8.

Thank you.....and thank you again.

I'm REEEEEEEAAAALLLLY getting sick of people ripping on the looks of the car. Especially people who rarely even look at this board.

Goodbye....bring that negativity to the STI boards. I don't necessarily like the look of Civics, but do I go onto a Civic board and say it looks nasty, nooooooooo. That's ridiculous....for real, grow up a little.

Have fun with that STI....it's a great car, but that blue streak passin you will be me in my Evo. Function over Form ladies......Function over Form.

I really don't care that the Evo 8 looks sorta like a Pontiac. I like the 7, and the 8 looks really similar imo - at least in most of the spy shots I have seen. I am looking forward to driving a performance car that is stealthy & does not attract too much attention.

I also can do without the AYC & electronic diffs. I have never driven an Evo, so I am sorta talking out of my ***, but I have not liked yaw stuff in the BWMs and GMs (vettes) that I have driven. And I am sure the electronic diffs are wonderful, but I have read elsewhere that they tend to be less relaible in the long run vs standard mechanical diffs.

I for one really don't care what the wheels look like as long as they are light and strong. Also, HIDs are very important - having good lights at night is very important and overlooked by many enthusiasts.

most important stuff to keep in evo imo: brembos, recaros, 6-speed tranny, and hids - stuff that I want anyway, and would have to replace instead of upgrad - would be great if these were at least options from the start...

my 2 cents

also, just wanted to say hi... been lurking here for some months, and finally registered last week... silver evo 8 coming sometime next year

What does coming on this board a lot have to do with having an opinion about the looks of a car? Ive been lurking on this board for months, and as I said above was totally gung ho about the 7. I however dont like the 8. I think its ugly. Does it mean im not an enthusiast? no. I still love the 7 and the 6 for that matter. If people dont like something theyre going to speak out about it. Its the nature of a public forum. Im not quite sure why you have such a problem with other people's opinion about the car, especially since you do not even own one.

I feel the needto speak again, please do not look at this as fuel on the fire. First of all, look at the facts. 99% of the sheet metal on the 8 is just like the 7, except the front fascia. Now, lets all go back a few months to when we knew very little about the Evolution we would get in the US. I seem to remember a huge debate about whether the Evo would had a front mounted intercooler (FMC) because it would be difficult to pass US crash test standards. Did anyone, in their haste to ***** and complain about the 8's styling, even for a second stop to think that the front end was changed to create a better impact zone, so the FMC would actually be on the car? No, I doubt any of you did. And thats perfectly fine. Just realize this is why American car companies are so far behind. They have wishy washy American citizens to appease, which as is evident from this thread, is a perplexing and impossible feat.

I think Hooby and Tristar Racing need to calm down. Based on the spy shots the car does look very different and seems to have lost it's aggressive edge even more then the evo7 did when it first came out(alot of people were pissed then too). I understand that the front had to change to meet crash standards but if we can put a man on the moon and make 150HP/L I think we can design an aggressive front end that can keep its intercooler safe in a 5MPH crash. If people dont like the new front and specificly the grill I totaly understand because the picture in the spy shot does not look appealing at all. Its a spy shot. Not a final picture. I can't belive how angry some people get over other peoples opinion in a rumor forum about some taped up, over lit, off center spy shots.

My 2 cents

Hey, who said that new Evo has to be aggressive looking? I for one, actually prefer more rounded and less aggressive look. The main reason why I like these cars is because of the technical features that they have (kind of like computer geek thing, transferred to the cars). If you pull next to the striped looking beast, you have an option to either smoke him/her or just keep driving your grocery gather!!

As for the aggressive look, there will be more then enough body kits to make the car look any way you can possible think about it.

And, you where right about those two and cooling down a bit!!

Have fun!
