removing the factory shift knob

hey guys, I have been trying to twist off the shift knob of my 05 evo and it just won't twist off. Any suggestions? thanks guys

Try to support the shifter shaft (keep it from turning) by gripping it with a hard piece of rubber and some vise grips, or else you will be putting stress on the shifter assembly, which is mostly plastic.

if its that mitsu alluminum shift knob ohh boy u better have a good man grip but all knobs will come off i say wait till it gets real hot like a 95 degree day and let ur car sit in the sun it will expand a little

I like the strap wrench idea. I also recommend following the suggestion of holding the shifter to help support it. If you are using that much force the plastic might crack.
