OK, right now nothing is supporting the tranny except the dowel pins and main shaft, and nothing is supporting engine but the passenger mount. Engine is resting on a wood block and tranny is resting on floor jack.

My question is when I pull this mama out, where is the center of gravity? It needs to rotate CW to clear but I need to know what to expect when she's mine.

Thanks

expect the heaviest tranny you've ever held in your life! i would say at least 150. i used an engine hoist with some ratchet straps to support it and not get crushed. most of the weight is away from the bellhousing though, if i had to estimate a center of gravity, i would say around where the shift selector is, that's a very rough estimate.

It's not the weight it's the fact that you need to rotate it after free and pull forward, just finished pulling it today. I placed a 2.5 inch PVC cap to the shaft comming out which saved it from getting banged up.

One thing for sure, mine doesn't weigh 150lbs, more like 90lbs, still it would have been nice if it was 10lbs

i've only done a 6-speed and i'm sure it's heavier, but i still figured the 5 was more than 90. that's about what a B-series honda trans weighs and you can manhandle those from the floor, no problem.

Allow me to eat those word's, I moved the tranny to an area to work on and that sucker is 120lbs for sure.

Anyhow, due to my compulsive nature I thought I should overhaul everything as well, ordered the two O-rings, felt washers, and bushings (if you need order #'s let me know) along with corroded bolts.

I highly suggest that you DO Not replace fork bushings - you will tear the fork races up, I had to resurface it from trying to replace them

Tranfer case to Tranny has two O-rings, one tiny (11mm) and one big (82.7mm), MD743612 and MD727944

Felt gasket to release fork, MD749474

Release fork bushing, MR953913 (just use old ones - tough to remove)

Most aggravating part of the whole process was installing driver side TJ shaft into tranny (green thing that goes onto spline of shaft with two cirlips). No where to get a grip or get leverage. I had a less painfull time lifting tranny into place with a jack and piece of wood than this.

we are in the middle of a MR clutch/flywheel install. We have a bay and a lift.

We thinking we do not have to take the rear mount off, bolts are a ***** to get to ..

Can we just take the cent bolt off and take the mount with the tranny? I think we can but won't know until we begin again tomorrow.

If not , whats the easiest way to get the two bottom bolts off that rear mount that is facing the rear of the car? The steering rack is in the way.

Long extentions?

It does not have to come out if you roll the tranny forward. Although with the larger MR trans I think you may not be able to do it this way. The best thing is to move the t-case out of the way and push the motor towards the front of the car and begin loosening the bolts. It has been a few months since I have done a clutch install although this should be how it is done.

Best of luck. PM me if you want my phone # and I will assist you over the phone if that helps.

Thanks, that might work. We think if we swing the tranning forward enough it should clear. I think we will try it your way first.

I feel sorry for people that do it on their back, some of the bolts required long breaker bars.
