The MR is just a car. The most important thing is you are ok.

it was about 9-10pm at night, road was wet, im going 45mph in 4th gear

a slight turn ahead, i spotted a deer ahead. i was calm, softly pressed down the brakes...

until the back end started to slide out to the left, i panicked, pressed the brakes even harder hoping the car would stop and crashed into the bushes... ofcourse i was shocked

yea go ahead and blame me for wrecking it, but right now its at the body shop being fixed, i do care for this car... it'll be good as new again.

i plan to go to an empty parking lot every sunday and learn to control the car for my own sake

i lied about the 200 miles part, because i dont want to be embarassed

but then the stupid rumors spread... then yea the rumors is true.

sorry.
Good to hear you are ok and that the car will make it. Sounds like you weren't doing anything stupid just a lack of experience. It is great that you want to work on your driving skills so this sort of thing doesn't happen again but I would recommened a performance driving school rather than an empty parking lot. There are lots of schools that will teach you car control and some more advanced driving techniques (not necessarily a racing school). I know skip barber offers some of these courses but you would have to investigate this a bit more in your area. If you mom is willing to by you a high performance car hopefully she won't mind sending you to a school where you can learn to control it.

Of course this goes into the (slightly off-topic) discussion about the lack of manditory drivers education programs that should be necessary to get a drivers license. Anyone ever look into what the Germans have to do to get a license? Driving there at 220KPH is much more relaxing that driving here at 60MPH. prosit!

Sorry man something doesnt add up with your story.. Glad you are ok but you need to take it easy man, this car isnt a toy.. And dont think i am hating on you becasue you are 19, i had a 400whp wrx with full jdm sti swap when i was19-21, i did 90% so i had a lot of respect for the car, i never so much as curbed a rim. I am now 22 married, and have the evo.

Don't worry about get it fixed and you'll be on the road again soon. I agree the parking lot idea is a good but go to a driving school.

Driving school will hopefully be your first mod because the EVO can get scary in some situations if you can't handle it.

Anyway I do respect the fact that you came out and explained your situation.

I was in your shoes before, 19 with a fast car and I wrecked it... twice! As long as you didn't hurt anyone else or get hurt in the process consider it an expensive lesson in responsablity. But what your not ready for is what your going to get back from the repair shop. The best advise I can give you is try to let your insurance company declare your car a total loss and get a new one. No matter who works on the car or what they do it will never be like the new car you had before.

You might want to look into a driving school like the Porsche Club of America or the BMW Club of America put on. A lot of times they open then up to other makes and they have some great instructors to help you learn how to handle your OWN car.
You can get the back end out if you are hitting the brakes hard enough. The front end of your will actually slow down faster than the rear. You wont notice this on a dry surface but on a slippery surface it will become noticable if you are braking hard enough.

Glad your OK and hope you get your car back soon.I think you learned a good lesson here.Hard but good.Hope everything turns out good for you.

I hope you're kidding. He wont have the new car again but to declare it a total loss for such (little) damages it'll cost him a fortune from insurance premium point of view for at least three years. Why bother with that?
He should just try to keep the repair costs as little as possible not to gain more than 1 or 2 points on insurance premium.

evo's shouldnt be driven by kids because on average, adults can drive better then kids because of experience.... besides that kids dont have self control and you need plenty of that if you own an evo.... youngins here, please leave ur pride somewhere else, theres a reason why you 18 and 19 year olds pay more then double the insurance premium then someone who's 30.

Glad to hear you're alright.

Dang, I figured the EVO's ABS w/EBD would be able to save us while mashing the brakes only at 45mph.

Glad you are ok.

When I was young (seems like yesterday), I had two reps-'strong' and 'can drive'.

Long story short, I am alive today for 2 reasons:
1. I knew I was good, BUT not that good (no unnecessary risks).
2. I grew up driving in Germany (drive as fast as I wanted to legally), in which you
learn respect.

At my school we had a very interesting corner and for some reason I was the only one that could take it cleanly hence part of the rep. A lot of rich kids there had nice cars funny thing was they all drove like grandparents , except this one kid, who I think I embarrassed driving his own new car. He went home for the summer and I guess he really wanted to learn to drive so his dad sent him to some crazy driving school in which he got to run NSX's on Suzuka. When he came back to school, he took me out for a pizza the long way and I found out that he could DRIVE. I knew, and he knew, that he could take me, but he was nice enough never to mention anything after THE drive. I like to think that he respected my natual talent.

Moral of my rambling is go to a quality driving school. Between the car and the school you will have a great future.

PS For rep 2, still benching over 3 after all these years
