hmm. Its funny to read this thread from start to finish. And in the end the stereotype is true.I think 99% of us looked at the picture and could see this kid crashing his car sooner or later. MOST not all but 95% of younger drivers dont have a clue. The important thing is your ok. That being said brings up some issues. The deer thing is beat to death whether true or false. IT Was totally drivers error by slamming on the brakes.I mean a EVO with ACD you would almost have to go out our way to crash under normal driving coditions. And as everyone knows we are all going slower then we really were. Everyone has done that when something goes wrong whether it be a ticket or accident. But seriously at ur age you didnt need a MR you need a education and need to mature. My condolences for you dad passing away. But the money you had gotten from you dad passing away would have collected interest or multiplied in stocks by time u graduate college then you could buy something else while gaining maturity. And at this point selling the car would be the worst case. The value of that car just dropped through the floor. So get it fixed and learn how to drive correctly for our sake and your own

Glad he's OK, but seriously hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Yeah, the older guys were all falsely stereotyping younger drivers. Right. Stereotypes get started for a reason, plus we've all been 19 before. His mom should have bought him a bus pass and a college education. If he had killed himself the blood would have been on her hands. Why do so many parents think parenting involves befriending their child. That's not how it works.
OMG theres a dealer logo thing on the back? ive always thought how lame that would be to see that on a sweet car like an evo... i dont really know - are those things easy to take off at least???

He should just try to keep the repair costs as little as possible not to gain more than 1 or 2 points on insurance premium.

Alright this is my first post but I've been lurking around and reading for a few weeks now. I also don't own an Evo, yet. I'll be leaving for US Coast Guard Boot Camp this Monday and when I get back I see an '05 Evo 8 in my future.
With that said...
I just quit my job as a Police Officer to join the military. I worked in New Hampshire and to be honest when it comes to driving experience 16-20 year-olds (I'm 20 years old myself) are on the same level as 65-80+. In fact I dealt with more accidents that involved someone over 65 years of age. If you start driving at 16 and continue driving on a daily basis your prime will be around age 32. After that age your experience level doesn't decrease, but your reaction time does. Yes, 16-25 year olds are more likely to get into a street race. This was true 40 years ago and it still stands true today. I believe that most of you who are older that have commented in this thread know that they at one point or another have done the same, which in turn makes you hypocritical of the younger members here. I'm not insulting anyone by any means, I just think each side should take a look at themselves and see where they stand. Then take a good look at the other side, I think you'll find more simalarities there then you thought existed. I was a Police Officer for 2 years, which doesn't sound long, but in those 2 years I've seen a lot of different situations. I've seen 40 year old women in BMW's involved in a street race. I've seen failing high school students enter their vehicle and immediately place their safety belts on. I've also seen straight A students get involved in horrific car accidents because of alcohol. I've also seen hundreds of accidents occur because a 45 year-old who had been driving since 16 forget to slow down when it was snowing out. I could go on forever but I won't bore you. Right now 16 year olds are receiving some of the best Drivers Education that our world has ever offered. Yet I believe it could still improve. Let's not beat a dead horse by saying that a 16 year old does not have the same experience as a 35 year old, because we all know it's true. That doesn't mean they don't deserve a vehicle such as an Evolution 8. The last time I checked it was still in each individuals hands to chose what they want to drive, let alone more important decisions in life. All we can do is sit back and hope that people make the right choice for themselves. Which won't always happen.
I'm happy to hear that this driver is in fact safe and has learned a lesson, no matter what the actual events that unfolded were.
Happy to be part of the forum, I'll be even more excited when I get back from boot camp and go out to get that new Evo that has my name written all over it.

Welcome, and good post. Very wise words! Makes me doubt you were really a cop.

What you say is very true.. Everyone needs to lay off him. He learned a very expensive lesson. This forum is here to help people, not to drag them down (other than the tuner wars).
BTW, good luck w/ the coast gaurd!
