not bad Mitchubishi. not bad at all.
i, too, have a 'macblack 2k4 viii and have had the same heartaches as you.
as i read through the 8 pages, one thing that WASNT mentioned to all is that this involves experimenting on their own cars to see what works best.
i have been trying out the Zaino Loc pre cleaner and the Zaino show car polish. my car has been rejecting the finish. dont know why, but it has. it seems to leave the finish "hazy" in my opinion. i have since went back to using only Blitz carnuba wax along with using a buffer with Meguiars professional glaze to remove any spider webbing on the surface. seems to be accepting these products better.
you also made note of the Porter Cable buffer. great machine if everyone on here could afford them and the different pads that you use.
i personally use the wool pad, black pad, and a good finish pad-typically white to get the finish where i want it to be. wet and swirl free.
maintain, maintain, maintain is the key to Mitchubishis details. he has alot to offer us here on EvoM.
great write up so far. keep up the great details and get some pics up!!!

Yeah, maintainence, is one of the sections still under typing, as well as interior, engine bay, jambs, metal....ugh, so much work, I hope it's worth it.
I read through this write up and its a terrific write up! I just wanted to know if this process and the products works the same for silver cars? Ive been using some of the OTC stuff that worked great for my 240 (tech wax, Hi-Tech Yellow wax, and show car glaze) that was dark green. Ive used the show car glaze along with both of those waxes and it doesnt give me the depth im looking for or the results that came with the 240. Im also doing this by hand. I dont have an orbital buffer. Mind you i made it look much better than the previous owner did, but just looking for something for lighter cars. Also what do you think about the 3M line? I found a local pep-boys that carries most of their line. My friend was a detailer for Honda for years and thats what they used and it looks great on their cars.
PM sent. Great post!
I just got my IX yesterday. I am planning on doing a Meguiar's smooth surface clay bar to the entire car. I was planning on doing a polish, but after reading this, I don't want to eat up any clear coat.
1. Should I go right from CLAY BAR to WAXING with Gold Class?
2. I have always used Meguiar's Gold Class, but got some Meguiar's NXT Generation as a gift. What are your thoughts on the NXT vs the Gold Class? I figure the NXT is newer technology since the Gold Class has been out for some time.
3. Do you recommend the Meguiar's "New Car Glaze 5" or "Show Car Glaze 7" for a brand new car?
Thanks again!

Be gentle with the claying, use plenty of QD as lube. I like both GC and NXT, on white I doubt you'll notice any difference, but NXT has done me well on white.
Use No. 7 Glaze...nice stuff!

I went with all Blackfire (clay, polish, wax) and I got some good results. Found a lot of flaws in the brand new Mitsu factory paint!
Good post. I now use the two bucket method and got a special detergent for washing the microfiber. Big Blue III is a Godsend!
