Grinding Noise, any ideas?

Good morning!

I have been noticing a "grinding noise" when driving my car at slow speeds. Up until this morning i used to think it was only when i was turning but now i am also noticing it when i am going straight. I thought it might just be because that it is an AWD car but now im not so sure. I hear it up until about 15 mph. It does get louder when i turn, and the faster i cut the wheel the louder it is as well.

I tried searching but could not find anything that really sounded like what this is. Could be a wheel bearing? Could be normal? I know its know a rock in the caliper because its been happening for a while. At highway speeds i do have a wheel bearing vibration coming from the rear of the car. The car will be going into the dealer to address that issue shortly. I am hoping at that time they can take a look at this other issue.

So, does this noise seem to be common or normal? Or is there something i should be worrying about..like a wheel falling off( )..?

Thanks guys!

The wheels won't fall out unless you have are missing lugnuts or they are loose. Keep us informed of what the dealer finds.

if you have a lift or access to 1, put it in the air and see if anything is rubbing. thats what i would look for first then look into berrings ect...

check to see if its your throw out bearing making noise, press the clutch down and see if it goes away...

Any update on this?

I'm getting the same with my car ... it only happens when turning right, but I noticed it earlier today when going straight. As far as mods goes, I have WORKS ride springs and camber plates .. could this cause a premature wheel bearing failure or possibly something worse?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

check your brakes. the inner pads wear faster than the outer. i just did mine @34k. the rears @24k. if it is a wheel bearing, it would be consistant and louder as you go faster. jack up the tires and shake the wheel left then right and see if it is loose. up and down play is usually suspension. good luck!

Now I'm hearing it sometimes when the car first fires up .. so rule out bearing .. I hear it when the car is pointed straight and moving in reverse. I have an appointment set up to get it looked at.

I just had a bad grinding sound too coming from my rear passenger wheel this past week. Same thing, at slow speeds and turning you hear it. Check your break pads, mine were really worn out almost to the metal. After I changed the pads it's been grind-free.

I definitely agree with Heaven's Turbo, it's most likely the brakes if it sounds like metal to metal grinding. Same thing happened to me last week.
I had my front right grind only when turning left, I pulled all the tires off and pulled all the brake pads off. The outside pads had about 1/3 meat left, but the inners were down to almost a nub. That's most likely where the grinding is coming from. I changed all my pads as the rear were almost shot too...I have 29,500 miles.
