well i finally fixed the clunk coming from the front driver side suspension. like many who have posted in this thread it was very loud and i could feel it on my feet.
as i previously posted, i changed out the sway bar endlinks due to the sway bar rubbing on the frame and it did not fix my clunk. i ordered some low mileage used suspension from a member on here for $150 shipped (for front and rear) and installed the front driver side.
went on a long drive hitting every dip and uneven surface that i would previously get a clunk from and no longer have the clunk, just a nice firm quite suspension. hopefully this will help some of you guys out.

I have the clunk as well...already switched to PSS9 and still have the same clunk.

Mine only happens when I am driving slow not very smooth roads...when I drive fast, it seems to disappear. Been thinking about this a lot and analyzing what could cause this. The clunk has been there since I bought the car at 11k miles. I have 15k miles now.

What parts of the suspension would be moving when you are slow, but not when you are fast? - possibly swaybars?

Want to have the engine mounts and other mounts checked tomorrow...

This is strange timing. I just found this thread through searching 2 days ago since I had the same noises.

I searched an found that a lot of debris gets caught on the rubber boots/cups on the bottom of the springs around the struts. I cleaned out a TON of dirt from there on either side.

Went for a drive and the noises are totally gone! Perhaps my issue was different than others, but this was a simple (and free) fix for a first shot at eliminating the noises on the front suspension.

Some updates...

Had the suspension checked out today to see if they can find the cause of the clunk...Since my clunk is still there, then I know what it is NOT! haha!

- Its not the stab end links
- Its not the stab bushings
- Its not the engine mounts
- Its not the 3 inch DP hitting the lower tie rods

I have PSS9 coilovers..the tech said that they had an issue with an E90 BMW with the clunk, and it was caused by the PSS9...but then I had my clunk even without the PSS9...but now its just a little bit louder.

Hope someone can chime in with other ideas of what I can check. Mine is a front end clunk that I can feel through the floor and brake and clutch pedals. I can also hear it, and it is def coming from the front drivers' side. Happens on rough road during slow speeds.

It's possible to be that dirt in the rubber boots/cups on the bottom of the springs around the struts like WagsEvo said. This Saturday I am going to service and I hope the problem will be solved. Another Lancer owner went to service and they cleaned that dirt. But that means I must go from time to time to have those cups cleaned, and it's stupid.

my clunk actually HURTS handling... honestly its so annoying. Its not a blown strut I know that for a fact. I think it has to have something to do with the sway bar.

Update on my Clunk...

Have Pss9, 3inch DP...

My swaybar is a good 2 inches away form the DP, and removing the links and moving the swaybar full motion up and down does not make it closer or farther from the DP.

Today we checked the swaybar, and removed the end links. The mechanic said that the sway bar should stay in place when the end links are removed, but mine slops down to the control arm. They assumed it was a worn bushing...put extra rubber to tighten it and see if the clunk disappears and then change to new bushing if applicable...NO LUCK...still clunking.

The mech then said that they had an E90 BMW with the clunk and PSS9 coilovers too...they decide to lower my car 2 rotations of the ring on the perch. Now there is NO CLUNK! Will observe and see if this lasts...

I always assumed the the hose on the spring and rotation of the spring had to do with stock suspension only...but I guess it applies to coil-overs too. and mine has helper springs too!

I am so confused...but happy for now.

Since this thread is really long...I hope we can help others with a simple summary of what fixed their clunk...last night I copied and pasted on word all the fixes that people have said in the 25 pages, so here are some of them...hope people will chime in with their fix:

1) w/ coilover and DP - rotated the spring by lowering the car very slightly
2) Tightening of the Cross Member Bolt
3) Putting hose on the springs
4) Changing the Stab link ends
5) Rear Engine Support bolt and busing busted and replaced
6) Changing to new shocks/strut assembly
7) Adding clearance to DP and Front Swaybar
8) Tightened Lower Tie Bar
9)

If anyone has more fixes THAT WORKED...please add it to this list, and it is something that CLUNKERS can try to check...

I Just got used blisteins and got it installed....and what you know, the sound is GONE! So more likely it was my front left strut in my case.
Hope this helps

I'm also having the sames issues and have read all 25 pages. I'm seriously considering getting a new strut or maybe a whole new set of coilovers, but what boggles my mind is, why is it that majority of the problems coming from the front passenger side? What is on that side of the car that's breaking parts.

Sounds like a strut problem to me. Mine was doing this on my 8 and when I switched to full coilovers it magically went away.

had a front end clunk, and it was just the front sway bars the bolts were loose.
