Cobb Access Port is a device you purchase that plugs into your OBDII port and uploads a pre-built tune from cobb. In addition it can be used for purposes of logging your cars data and for vehicle specific tunes.

Access port is a waste of money. Why not get a tune that is made for your car? And less expensive? Just go to a good tuner that actually tunes.

My opinion anyway... This applies for the VIII-IX and X btw.

Either way enjoy your new tune!

I've had great results with an Accessport and Cobb protuning on my X. In the end what matters is who tunes your car, not what they tune it with.

Dont get me wrong the Access port is a decent tool. But you have to buy it for the 500 or 600 whatever it is. Then if you want it "pro tuned" or if you want to tune it yourself you need the pro tuner software and license. Im not sure of the price but i think its up towards 100-200 extra? Apparently the tuner software is fee now?
So about 700-800 for a tune? 600-700 tune i suppose..

You could just get a tactrix cable to $150 and a "pro tune" for 200-500. $500 is extreme if you ask me and over priced. But that's the top end from what ive seen. Plus you still have the cable afterwards to make changes....

hmmm actually i think for the X the 2.0 cable is $200 but if you were to get a pro tune you wouldnt need the cable anyway i supposed. You just wouldn't be able to change anything without getting one or borrowing one.

As Kracka said. They all work just fine. It depends on the tune.

False. ATR is free software and is basically Cobb's version of ECUFlash.

Wow! Really? I didnt think it was originally free. As I remember it being a big deal when i was waiting eagarly for the acces port to come out for the Evo to replace my UTEC back in 2006 maybe? Anyway good to know. Sorry for the misinformation.

I personally would still lean towards Ecuflash as its a powerful tool in itself and i can see COBB dropping support for the access port in the future like TurboXS did with UTEC. Then you have a peice of equipment that is not longer being updated. Wich can be ok but i like new techniques / methods etc. For the OP it sounds like a plug and paly type module with a canned tune would be ok. And if he/she wanted to could bring it to a shop and pay the cash to have a custom one made.

You can't go wrong either way as long as you do the research and choose a tuner with a good historical reputation. I had the Cobb AP on my X and liked it a lot. I ultimately sold it and went with open source due to the lack of AP tuners in my area. You will find much hate and discontent from the "I can do it better and cheaper" crowd of Evo Nation. Yes the AP vs cable and laptop has been beat to death over the last few years. There have been many threads all breaking down the math to prove that the Cobb AP is ultimately the more expensive route. Personally, I found it a valuable tool with functionality that I find myself missing from time to time. Ultimately It’s your money broham so spend it the way you want to.
