Live Data Logging Device?

Hello,

So I recently managed to get my hands on an Evo X gsr. Now before I modify anything at all, I want to get some of the numbers of the car from when I am driving around with it, and also gives me the time to get used to the car.

I was hoping someone could give some advice on a device to log data on. It did occur to me that I could purchase the accesport and use that, just not load any maps onto it. Has anyone tried doing that? Any tips?
Also, any other devices that could do that, would greatly help. Something that I could log data, than take it, plug into my laptop and see what's happening.

Thanks for the advice!

Well, you need something like this http://www.tactrix.com to get logs. It has the option of adding a mem card for standalone logging if you don't want to log directly to a laptop. Keep in mind that a key measurement of logging is your AFR which will require a WB02 sensor in a TP or DP.

You would have to load one of Cobbs maps to do any logging with the AP. So, you wouldn't be logging your car exactly the way it is now. It doesn't allow you to use it only as a logging/monitoring device without being installed on the car.

Yeah I was looking around found someone who was trying to do something similar to me. He/She had to get an WB02 sensor, I think I may just get boost gauge, wideband and afr gauge and hook up the sensor while I am at this. I'll need those anyway once the mods start coming in. What do you guys think?
But the tactrix does seem like a decent option.

Thanks for the info on the AP, i emailed them and asked if I could do so, they said that I would have to load a "stock" map onto it, and like you mentioned it needs to have some map loaded onto it for it to work.

I am fairly new to all of this, and I want to do it right the first time, so that I hope not to have any problems down the road haha, so any suggestions/advice will be more than welcome!

Wideband as the first mod is a good move. I've used both Tactrix and the AP. I personally like Tactirx. I think the AP is more convenient/user friendly for logging and live monitoring. Having a laptop in the car is a pain in the ***. Tactrix plus Evoscan and Ecuflash have more functionality, and are more hands on (I like nerding out on stuff). I think you can get a better tune using Tactrix. There are some awesome ECU patches for Ecuflash and I think that's where you see the most innovation. Cobb is more focused on other cars so you get a more generic tune. There's no right or wrong, just what you like.

Ok, I see. I am not really sure I want to get into actual tuning in the future, I would rather I have a pro do it. I have a decent understanding of the same, but the tactrix will have more detail and functionality than the AP.
I feel I am gonna work on the gauges and sensors first, and get that out of the way, and then decide between the tactrix or the AP (though I will still have to figure out how to get a stock map on the AP)

Thanks for the info/advice, I will try to keep you'll posted.
Cheers!

You don't have to learn to tune using Tactrix. It is a little more hands on to load maps and log. Your tuner will be able to do all of it for you if you go to someone. If you want an etune you'll need to learn some of it. You don't really put a stock map on the AP. They have a "stage 0" map that's like the stock map.
