engine problem, I think

This is weird, I never noticed this until yesterday. Anytime I'm cruising and I hit the gas I see the boost rise (boost gauge) the engine start to roar, then you can see this happen on the tach, the engine revs about 250-500RPM upwards with a jolt and hesitation in the car, then a half a second later it's like something catches and the car then goes normal. I orginally thought the clutch was slipping and then catching (thats what its acting like), but the clutch feels strong everywhere else, even on a launch or down shift.

My mods are
AMS intake
AMS hot pipe
AMS boost controller (24psi)
Buschur Exhaust

I dont think it has to with any mods because these all together have been on the car as a whole for over a month.
I know mitsu has some updates for the ECU that I never went and got, but can't imagine this is from that, right? Any ideas?

UPDATE: 9/12/2008
Ijust got my ECU back from AMS and needless to say tuning my car is not the issue. Not blaming AMS, but now when I hit the gas while cruising, the clutch has to be disengaging or something because it will go from 3k all the way up to 5K if not 6k. Then I let off the gas and push again and it goes normal and hard as if nothing was wrong. WTF. How can the clutch still be able to launch hard from a stop and downshift and hold, but slips under normal acceleration. HELP PLEASE!

If you haven't gotten the rev 2 factory reflash tell the local dealership that you are getting a stumble or maybe even a backfire on acceleration. I know my car was down a good 10-20 HP and would occasionally hesitate or backfire when doing the 2 -> 3 or 3 -> 4 upshift. You may also want to check that the MAF plug is in properly and there are no clamps slipping off connections.

My car was stumbling a little on acceleration. The second factory reflash was a gift from heaven. No more stumble at idle or acceleration. An aftermarket cone also helped with surge between 2k-4k on partial accel also. You already have the intake, so i would spring for the tune. They might flip a lid when they see your mods tho. They had a tissy fit when they saw I put a cone filter on mine.

I would remove one mod at a time to see if it's being caused by one of them. I would start with the MBC and then the intake.

Dude, take all the aftermarket crap off (including the tune) and take it to the dealer. You have clutch and/or tranny issues. The tune likely makes it worse since now you are making even more power.

check for boost leaks as well

if you want to test the clutch, go on the highway, throw it into 5th gear, and go WOT see if the problem occurs. if the revs jump then check for boost leaks or it might be your clutch.

Not sure how this could be a boost leak, but this definitely sounds like a blown clutch. Weird that it works down low.

Does it do it in other gears? Just 5th?

It was orginally doing it only in 5th gear, then fourth. Now after the tune it's evident that it's a blown clutch. It does it in all gears. I've never seen a clutch go bad and show it in 5th gear first. And believe me I have gone through many clutches in my other cars, just no where near this fast. Oh well more mods to get. Thanx for the help

the typical test is to try and lug in 5th... or try and stall in 5th. If you can, from a standstill, let the clutch out in 5th and not kill it, the clutch is dead.
