Could be blow-by? Piston rings may be worn, what year/mods are on your car? Did you check the oil after the car warmed up or before? Oil level should not be at full mark if it was cold or not run very long. Is the oil "thin" or "normal"?

All Evo's run very rich on the stock tune, which will contribute to gas contamination of the oi. But it seems to be even more of an issue with the X. I have seen several other threads discussing this issue.

Ahhh, yes, didn't even notice this was posted in the X forums. From what I've read, the X's run richer than the VIII's and IX's did, so that would make sense.

You should probably check this thread with others having the same issue.

I might get my oil analyzed soon because I smell a hint of gas too, but I'm not sure it's really anything to worry about.

My oil seems to have a hint of gas smell in it too. Weird thing is, it seems more noticeable when the car has been driven and the oil is hot. When I first checked it in the morning, it wasn't so noticeable. If it is fuel, maybe it's because the fuel separates from the oil when sitting overnight in the car? Anyways, I'm thinking of getting my oil analyzed, but I'm about to change it and only have 1500 miles on the current oil (but it's been in the car 3 months). Will this be too little mileage to give useful results from oil analysis?

For now until we know how serious the fuel dilution in oil is keep your oil changed at 3k miles intervals instead of what the book says at 5k.

I've got about 1600 miles on my latest change (Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30), and my dipstick smells of gasoline. My car's completely stock, but I drive it fairly hard. It's an *evo* for christsake, so I'm assuming it's supposed to be driven hard.

Can't wait to see those oil analysis results.

I really want the Cobb AP, but I don't have $700 to blow on my car right now. I was wondering if maybe a drop-in panel air filter would help here? I've heard that the drop in filters lean out the AFR 0.5-1.0 point. That seems substantial. I was wondering if that's enough to help here? Anyone with a panel filter smell gas in their oil?

EDIT: It just occurred to me that if there's really *that* much gas in the oil for so many drivers, then these cars, in stock form, are probably going to start using quite a bit of oil over time as the cylinder walls wear prematurely. Anyone with > 10k miles seeing an increase in oil use? I've got 6600 on my car, and the level's not dropping at all.

Well, I'm the OP who started this thread, and I've had a drop in filter all along, so there's your answer. Although I'm sure it helps a bit, my oil still reeks of gas. Oh, and the drop in filters lean out the mixture by about .5 points, not 1 full point. A full intake with a larger maf housing will trick the ecu into running a lower load cell, which will run leaner air fuel ratios and more timing, and those will approach 1 full point. Either way, unless you are at extreme power levels, intakes and drop ins alike are both a waste of money once you're tuned.

The attached oil **** report is from my new X MR at the first oil/filter change ~2500 miles. The fuel dilution is at 2.4% and silicone is at 90 ppm.

I just check my car awhile ago and the oil is very dark and smells like gasoline. I seem to have every issue possible with my car. I've had three reflashes, notchy transmission and now oil that smells like gas. Is lemon law a possibility here?

so what are considered normal fuel in oil, viscosity and silicone levels?
