Can I change the stock BOV to VTA
Sorry for bringing back a dead thread, but I sure don't want to be blamed for not searching.
Here's a pic of what the OP is describing that I found at evoxforums:

Though I'm not sure the stock bov is designed for VTA, since it might be letting air in during idle.

Ok...All the people saying "your car will run like crap"; Are you basing this off of experience with the 4g63, what you read on this forum, or actual experience with the X? Some are doing it with no problem from what's been posted. Not that I'm going to run out and VTA my car, but I see nothing wrong with somebody showing off that their ride is turbo. 'Sound' is the reason guys with v8s, Harleys, and etc... put pipes on. A 4 banger never really sounds that good, so why not accentuate it so it sounds more formidable than a Civic?

There is ABSOLUTELY no need for a VTA BOV with the stock turbo set-up and up to 28-30 lbs of boost. It has no performance benefits. If you want to hear the turbo get an open element filter and you can hear it fine. At least you will gain more boost from the open filter.
^+1. Some 4g's can do it just fine while others fall on their face when VTA with a MAF. I just see no point in doing it if it risks the drivability and overall performance of your car...
So as a fellow newbie I found the tread on the whole informative and entertaing. I put a AEM cold air intake on my x last week and have not noticed any louder noise during shifts or any other time really, I'm not sure what people are saying is louder when using a cone filter.
and plz, if your are going to suggest I found out on my own, a point in the right direction is helpful

sorry to bring this thread back lol..but im hearing its okay to run a blow off valve vta only if you have your car tuned for it..i am planing on tunning my 09Ralliart soon after i get all my parts together and i was thinking about getting a greddy rd or hks blow off valve then having the car tuned..should i be fine?
You can't tune this car specifically for a vented BOV, and you don't need to. There's no super rich condition when it vents, it's just as rich when you let off the throttle as a recirculated valve. It all comes down to personal preference and that's it. As long as the vented BOV stays fully closed at idle you'll be fine. If it's adjustable, tighten it down just enough so it does stay closed at idle.
I wouldn't recommend it. We have had customers have good luck with the 50/50 setup, but the straight VTA seems to always have a problem. I wouldn't recommend it unless running speed density.
Thanks,
Michael
Thanks,

Does the stock BOV stay open at idle? My SD stuff is in the mail, and once I'm tuned up, I'd like to remove the recirc and make sure it's all drivable before upgrading to a tial. I guess I can just wait until then and see...unless someone knows.
