Mivec wiring modification???

Since I will be removing the plastic cover on top of the valve cover, the MIVEC wires are cluttering the area. In order to hide/tuck the wires aside, I will need to cut and lengthen the wires about 3-4 inches. Will there be any problems if I manipulate the MIVEC wires? I remember altering o2 sensor wires will distort the voltage and will eventually send a check engine code. Can any tech help???

This is the wire that I want to cut and lengthen, so I can tuck it aside:

there is no hard evidence that the mivec solenoid is a voltage based component or i should say resistance dependent component so lengthening the wires hasnt been a problem. i simply used the same gauge wire for both of the wires in the harness and added the necessary heat shrink to make it all look oem. once the harness is long enough to be tucked i routed it under the AC line that runs in front of the valve cover and then between the head and the powersteering pump. dammit i knew i should have taken pictures when i did this. ill take pics the next time i do it so that there is a step by step process. i hope that helps.

Thanks. Since I am a "would be" mechanic, I wanted a techs confirmation on the process. I didnt want a mishap, like in my honda days. (when I messed up the o2 sensor)

yeah i feel yeah. ive worked on F-16's for 9 years now as an electrician so redoing the wiring on these cars hasnt been challenging by any means. lol. good luck with your tuck. please for crying out loud dont use butt splices. if you cant find anything, then solder them and heat shrink them individually then as one. a good rule of thumb also is never have two termination points right next to each other. cut and splice one at like 6in from the mivec connector and the other like 8in. get what im puttin down? it keeps the harness from one being bulky and two if one of the splices rubs through the heatshrink it wont find the other splice when it does. that will short out the wires quicker than a pornstar snatches down her panties.

Gotchya. Thanks for all the tips. I also put electrical tape over the heat shrink.

in the process of cleaning up my VC area, i cut the mivec wire and extended it so i could tuck it further down the engine sides.

i used back wires of the same thickness and soldered back all seperated parts. to finish the job, i shrinked wrapped the soldered parts as well as any part of the mivec wire that was exposed.

The only thing I found tricky was getting the heat shrink over the soldering points (since it was slightly fatter in that area).

Do you think there is any reason Mitsu ran the intake and exhaust MIVEC wires in equal length? Im just double checking since I will be shortening one and lengthening the other.

Maybe just easier in the factory.. then it doesn't matter which one you use!

The process is complete. I shortened the wire on the intake side about 5 inches and used the excess wire to extend the exhaust wire.
