I was in the same boat as you, but I made the decision to go ahead and go with the FP Black. From everyone that I spoke with, the spool difference between the FP Red and the FP Black is minimal. In addition, after looking at what my future plans are, I just didn't think the FP Green was going to cut it.

I'll try to get a 1st and second gear pull in the next few days.
keep in mind though that murlo is running e85 and with e85 your going to spool faster no matter the turbo. Hence why murlo's black spool is just as fast as some greens, reds and bbx's that are running pump. My buddy has a red w/ full bolt ons running e85 and im on pump 91 stock turbo with full bolt ons minus fmic and his red spools only 200-300 rpms slower.

EDIT: Here is link for the Virtual Dyno graph. http://www.utahpace.com/forums/attac...1&d=1272253023

Keep in mind that when this VD graph was done the only mods i had was intake and test pipe.

the black needs a fuel pump upgrade and the spool time is quite different from what i understand.

I agree although most guys running reds and greens have upgraded fuel pumps also. The spool with the black on pump is indeed slower than the green and red on pump but when your comparing the black running e85 you are going to see faster spool which explains why murlos spool is just as fast as some smaller turbos. Of course though if you decide to run the black on e85 (or even 26+psi on pump) on stock block you are driving around a ticking bomb. That explains why the red and green may be a more logic choice for those who dont want to spend the extra money and time to build up an engine.

On a side note though how is the red treating you?

Cobb here in Texas is not far away from FP and they collaborate. They might have one in stock for you. Or try another shop, maybe someone has one laying on a shelf.

I have called every major vendor; AMS, MAP, Vivid Racing, AWDMOTORSPORT, and several different Cobb facilities, and no one has an FP Red on their shelves.

Here are 3 different cars, but on the same dyno. All 3 on E85. The FP-Green (blue lines) and the FP-Red (red lines) have very similar mods and both have Kelford B cams. The 3rd car is a Cobb Stage 2 with a stock turbo. You can clearly see the peak torque and power are progressively later from stock turbo to FP-green to FP-red turbo. I guess it all depends on street vs track use for the car, but the FP-Red looks laggy for normal day to day driving.

Hi guys ... saw all the discussion and opinions, I think Red should do for me but I want your help regarding something else.

I'll be running 97oc (on the pump) soon, and wonder if the generated heat from the upgraded turbo should affect my options (green or red).

The car is for DD use, track it once a month for fun not racing, my target is 420whp max. And planning not to go for higher whp's, as this would force me to modify the engine to avoid any failure. I would like to keep the car for 5 years failure free as much as I could

I'm thinking to install the turbo and get a tune from Cobb SoCal.

Any advice?

my current mods below.

Thanx

Stick with the Red then... But, at that power level you dont need to build the motor.. Necassarily. Watch the torque and at what rpm the torque is peaking
