2011 ECU Flash and Drop In question

High, I just picked up my 2011 MR a couple weeks ago. I am currently just looking to do 1-2 things at the moment. The first thing I was looking at is a replacement air filter. I have looked and it seems like the Cosworth might be the one to go with. From what I have gathered dry foam and oiled filters are not very desirable, and the Railliart is very expensive.

The Drop Ins seem to work out good with helping lean out the already rich ECU Tune. My real question is it seems like the 2011 ECU has a different flash and a better tune (leaner?). Does that mean that I will see less power gains then 08-10 with just the drop in?

Thanks

Haven't had my 2011 dynoed with the drop in yet, but it's definitely not much of a difference. There might be some extra power on the top end, and I can hear the suction more when I get on it. As far as mileage goes, it hasn't leaned out the mixture at all... I'm guessing the ECU compensates for the extra air pretty well.

When you first drop it in it will lean you out a little bit ~.5 but as you drive it the ecu will compensate and pretty much bring it back to where it was stock. I was nervous putting in my drop in since the 2011 tunes are different, so I installed my wideband first, and thats what happened to me.

2011 X bone stock vs. K&N drop-in air filter (same car, same dyno, same day, never even unstrapped):

The cosworth drop in filter game me more on the butt dyno than my catback did on my 2011 GSR

Isn't the K&N an oiled filter? Are there any known issues with it?

Not sure if there's any issues out-of-the-box, but after cleaning the filter, over-oiling it can cause the oil to migrate onto the MAF sensor and screw it up.

Thats the issue with the same day same dyno, never unstrapped deal. I bet there was not enough time for the ecu to correct fuel trims and effect WOT. As we know the evo X carries fuel trimming into open loop. The leaner mixture would def. make more power on a stock vehicle that runs very rich. Then what happens after running the car for a couple days....?

Good points, as air filters can and do change the LTFT's and AFR's with varying amounts depending on their design.

However, with any tuning I do on the Evo X, I change the hertz crossover so that once you are over 5-10 psi range the LTFT no longer effects WOT operation.

Yes oiled, no problems using them. K&N makes a quality product. Check out AFE drop-in air filters too.

It would have to be dripping oil for that to even be a possibility. When cleaning/reoiling you only need a light coating of oil, just enough to turn the white cotton red.

Yeah, don't. As myself and others here have noted, the AFE drop-in filters are ill-fitting garbage.

Oiling it properly, it shouldn't be a concern. Just thought I'd mention it, since there were quite a few members that had a similar issue with the MAF after installing aftermarket drop-ins.
