Tranny drain plug won't tighten, advice?
Tranny drain plug won't tighten, advice?
Changed the transmission fluid, and the fill plug wont tighten all the way when using a torque wrench or ratchet. Seems to get to a "point" then get looser...it still can be removed, but I am not happy with it being how it is. It won't move when I try and tighten by hand, just never seems to get tight. Can't find any leaks tho, any advice? Thank you.
Look at your old plug threads, are they screwed up or filled with aluminum? The trans case is aluminum, the plug is steel--whats going to strip? The aluminum. Either find a larger plug and tap or helicoil the old hole to the stock size--no alternatives. If you used a torque wrench--was the measure foot ibs or inch lbs--they are not he same. Good luck.
The bolt thread was filled with aluminum. I definitely f**ked up the fill hole plug. So I am going to never touch it again and inquire at the dealership here or try my luck with a transmission shop to fix it. I appreciate the help. I probably over torqued it. So mad because it is easy enough to do, and a good way to save money, but now I just cost myseld 3x as much to get it fixed....live and you learn. Thanks guys for the feedback though.
don't be to hard on yourself accidents happen. Like the other guy said just get a helicoil repair kit like this one. Not this size..but you get the idea http://www.sears.com/helicoil-thread...&mktRedirect=y
You just have to figure out what size you would need for the fill plug. And look at it this way at least it wasn't the giant drain plug and just the fill one lol.
