C161F Logged with Pictures

Hi all,

I've had my Evo X for almost 10 years now and have about 54k miles. I've had bolt-ons, EFR 7163 kit (From CBRD), Exedy Twin Disc clutch, tune, etc. for about 25k miles. Today I went for a ride and noticed the Tarmac light was blinking. I pulled over and scanned the car with my Cobb AP and it showed a CEL of C161F. I kind of assumed that this was the dreaded ACD/AYC pump issue due to corrosion but saw a few posts that this could be due to low ACD fluid. The first time I took a look, the fluid was at the minimum line:

ACD - half full

When the car is parked for a while, and I take a look at the fluid level, it's on the max line:

ACD - full

Is it possible I just need to top off the fluids a bit or is this wishful thinking and should I plan on seeing if Mitsubishi will cover this or not? I know the latter is unlikely but I thought I read that Mitsubishi finally admitted that this was a design flaw and started covering with no questions asked in a lot of cases. Not sure if this would be better suited for this thread - https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...merged-38.html. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

That's normal ACD pump fluid behavior. Your pump is probably toast. My '11 Ralliart was on it's third pump at 120,000mi. Mitsubishi extended the pump warranty out to 10yr, 100,000mi. If you're over that, good luck.

Thanks guys. I'll cross my fingers and see if Mitsubishi will cover this. Keep you posted.

As a quick update, I called Route 46 Mitsubishi based out of Totowa, NJ and mentioned the code I received. The service manager said they're aware of covering the ACD replacement for 10 years/100K miles. I plan to bring the car to them on Wednesday or Friday, so we'll see what happens!

Awesome, not too far from me.

Not that it matters, my Evo has literally sat in my garage since I moved here and it was a California car before that.

Yeah, I've followed your build thread in the past! I'm not too far from you. Are you going to keep your Evo? I've thought of selling mine a multitude of times but I've dumped way too much money into it and I'd likely just buy something more expensive like an M3 or Porsche. So I always just end up keeping it.

Not sure yet, I have a little under four weeks to get it running again for our move to NY. Then I will see.

Welcome to the northeast, where you get to decide if you want to expose your car to salt or only drive 6 months per year. I've been keeping mine in the garage for winters but seem to debate selling it every year by the end of the winter.

So as an update, I brought the car to Route 46 Mitsubishi in Totowa NJ, and just received a call that the ACD pump is in fact failing. They informed me that they're covering the pump replacement free of charge! I'm really fortunate as the car will be 10 years old come July. Couldn't have timed this any better!

All Evo X experts, I just got some bad news that the pump is on back order and coming from Japan. So it might be another 1 or 2 weeks before it arrives. Any issues with driving the car with this issue just from the dealership to my house (10 miles)? I don't really want to leave my car at the dealership for 2-3 weeks. Any input is helpful. Thanks.

Fine to drive, you just won't have proper ACD/AYC operation. Basically all open.
