Driving around town, I don't particularly care. Horsepower output is largely meaningless on public streets beyond the ability to merge or pass comfortably at highway speeds.

Let me share a funny story with you guys, when I pick up girls in my IX they kinda just look at my car like whatever. Once they feel the power that the IX has they seem to enjoy it. But on my X, while on a date last night, the girl right away noticed how much "nicer" the X is compared to my IX, but still liked the power in this bone stock X. I guess what im trying to say, is that they are both great cars, its just that the X is able to be as good as previous Evos, but at the same time be more refined and smooth all the way around.
As someone who has owned an VIII and now own a X, I agree, you have to drive both for an extended period to appreciate both. They have distinct differences in terms of level of refinement and road feel but both are unmistakably 'Evo' in their character and I love both for different reasons.

OK. I'll play. How about 1/4 or even straights in a RR? Either way, in stock trim, you'll be underpowered compared to what's out there..

I don't do any 'road racing,' I do driver's education events and don't want nor need more power at my current level of driving ability. Hell, my 997S is frankly too fast for me to handle comfortably on a track.

I don't waste my time with drag racing anymore.

Lets not get into this. The LSX engines are more than twice the displacement of our 120-some odd cubic inch engines. 500-600hp is doable with a 350+ cubic inch aluminum engine, you arent putting the same stree on it as that of a four cylinder aluminum engine. So your point is moot.

OMFG.. STI

Edit, it's funny that I'm in a IX from a Talon myself, have no desire to buy a X (not that it's bad, just not my cup of tea) and yet I find myself in a position that seems argumentative in favor of the X. I just don't like closed minded apocryphal discrediting with no proof or effort there-in.

There your right, the X is so much smoother, but its not slow at all. You just dont get that crazy feeling while driving it. Took both the IX and the X to the track last weekend, and the X was right there with the IX in lap times, granted the X is STOCK and the IX isnt. SO if I was to modify the X as much as my IX, the X will kill the IX at the track. My X is gunna become my daily driver for now, but once the tuning options are out, I will see the X becoming more of a beast than the IX, well a more "refined" beast thats for sure.
When you say "took them to the track last weekend" did you mean road course or dragstrip? Either way, if you have times, please share them

How is what I said closed minded, and how is what I said about aluminum engines discrediting with no proof? Do a google search about engine block alloys and strenght, and aluminum vs iron engines. Plenty of proof is but a few clicks and keystrokes away. You think it by accident engines like the 4G63 or 2JZ-GTE are so strong?

You're spouting a lot of conjecture based around antiquated concepts about block manufacturing. Metallurgy has come a long way in the past decade; there is a reason the majority of today's high performance motors are built with aluminum blocks.

Edit: I'm not saying the bottom end will be able to hold more or less power than a 4G63, most likely less, but I doubt it's going to be as fragile as many people here seem to hope it will be.

/me's head explodes.

guys, particularly boostez: you need to chill man. Nearly all of your posts lately are trolling the evo X's and their owners decisions. Live and let live man. The car isn't going anywhere.

Go pick some fights on the STI forums man! UNITY!
