Evo X official paint issues/problems thread {merge}
This is another untrue statement. I had a 06 SI with summer performance tires. FWD and drove the same roads in it for the two years I had it and did not have a rock chipping issue at all. And not to argue with you but do you have this issue with your car? have you looked at all the pictures posted on this issue? Because you are making alot of statements about something you have no knowledge in. I too was at one point felt bad for the people posting this problem and at the same time was on my high horse because my mudflaps (I thought) were a fix to the problem. And here it is 11k miles and I'm complaining about the same thing. So I would get a few more miles in before you chime in about something you have no knowledge in. Because I would guess sooner or later you'll be posting about Mitsu's paint too.
Well I put some rally armor mudflaps on the car and I am crossing my fingers. I dont really care too much for the looks of mudflaps on street cars, but the service from the people at Rally Armor was excellent. Great communication and speedy shipping. I would recommend them to anyone considering their product!
Installation was pretty quick and straight foward too

I think I agree with someone who said chips are sexy on an Evo -- shows you're driving it.
Sorta, but I also noticed that but my car I had custom installed Front air and rear, no side skirts. I have most of all my chips on the STOCK side skirts. Actually, except for other debris hitting the still car, I don't have any on the nose or rear doors/fenders. I polish it dry by hand about once a week still, it's NEVER seen an automatic car wash, except to drive past it quickly.
I've had this car in the weather-active MW since mid-June. Daily drive is 30miles each way. Combo curvy hwys and Interstate (60/40). Pretty much follow "work trucks" commercial HD stuff for 1/2 the way to work in the mornings.... It's clean still.
Slightly off topic (ok more than slight) -- has anyone figured out the least labor intensive way to clean these wheels off short of a scrub brush? Brake dust is major!

I found that the best way to clean was to take the whole wheel off and just clean it with your hand (wearing a glove of course). 99% of the brake dust and other crap can be cleaned like this. The only thing that wont come off, i noticed, is the tar drops after driving on a newly laid road. But having the right cleaning liquid can solve all of your cleaning issues.
didn't read the whole thread... but I've been meaning to post up something about the evo paint. I recently got a Defelsko paint meter gauge. And I tell you, Evo X is THIN!! on average, the few X I measured are under 90 microns, where the 8/9 are at around 110+. Toyota are around 120-140 and Ferrari are around 200 range to give you some perspectives.

I'm sorry about that man. I know on the evo 8 they had a clear vinyl sticker that went there to prevent such rock chips. It might be something to look into having made, even though it's a little late now.
Before I even drove my Evo X off the lot, I got the front nose, mirrors, rocker panels, and back of the rear door covered with clear bra. Here's a shot of the rear door:

I wish I would've done this. Now I'm stuck waiting until the end of tax season so I can make an appointment to have it done on a Saturday.
So...the only times I've driven my car were when there weren't even any cars in front of me, and when I had painter's tape covering the entire front end of my car.
Somehow though, I have some chips. I knew there were 3 tiny ones when I bought the car, but now there's more. I don't even know where they came from. The car wash is only about 200 yards from my storage locker, and that's really the only place I've been. I just keep washing the wax away, etc. The paint on the car actually is starting to look horrible. I'll take pictures tomorrow night of before and after I detail the car. Then Saturday hopefully I'll be going to get a clear bra put on.

1500 Miles. Nothing but street driving.
Installing VentureShield tomorrow on full bumper, full hood, rear doors, full rockers.
There are a few higher up on the rear door, but you get the jist of it.

If you wash and wax your car yourself, be prepared for dissapointment.
