Open your hood and look at the plumbing on the brake-lines. If you have a real RS, then it goes from the MC to the prop valve to the calipers. No large ABS unit anywhere under the hood.
surprisingly, all mechanical parts needed for abs are on the car: all wheel sensors, as well as abs hydraulic unit under hood and even the relays (number 26, 27) are in their plases. and more to it, manual which came with the car says that RS models have ABS, but no brake-assist system. But it all seems to be just decoration for probably being permitted for common roads or homologation. It somehow switched off electronically.
diagnostic computer attached to the car does not see any abs and no braking system mistakes.
I know there has never been abs on previous rs models, but hope there are some ways to turn it on with x. found few posts in internet than tmraustralia managed to swithch it on on theis x rs, but nothing bout how they done it. wrote them a letter thogh.

Wow. That's the second time that someone from a far-away left-hand-drive country has said that the ABS unit is there in an RS, just disabled. To be honest, I didn't believe the first person and carried on. I know that at least some right-hand-drive cars had no ABS parts at all. This is fascinating. Thanks for posting.

It would be great to know how they switched off the ABS without disabling the ACD. One problem with running a USDM Evo X GSRs on gravel is that anything that I've tried to turn off the ABS also switched off the entire S-AWC system. I hate ABS on gravel and dirt, but an open center is even worse.

Another issue that I forgot to mention that relates to all this is how most rallyists install a hydraulic hand-brake. You really don't want the ABS unit to be active when you have a hand-brake because, if the ABS unit for some reason decided to send some pressure to a rear wheel while you have the hand-brake partly pulled, it would slam the lever into your hand and probably damage some part of the car, as well. In general, fancy brake hydraulics and hydraulic hand-brakes do not mix.

checked today in mitsu spare-part catalogues and abs unit on rs is the same partnumber as on mr/gsr.
my guess now is to try to enable it with MUT, it might be disabled there.
I agree that for racing and especially in rally you don't want abs, but i'd better have it for asphalt and daly-drives.
I use the car daily and some time-attacks and rally-sprints on weekends. And you can kill your tires easily on a track without abs.
standart handbrake has different pads and it's architecture is different from 9 and that's the reason you can't put 9 rear brakes on x (we use smaller brakes here in winter for rally-sprints). and it also opens central diff when you pull the had-brake. so I guess it might be an issue of how you install the hydraulic hand-brake. i'm not planning it anyway.

the problem is that RS is also absolute rare here. and all that I know of are build for professional rallying so no one just bothered with this question )

The old rules required that 250 be made to get the model homologated. No more were required world-wide. No idea if that rule still applies.

As to activating the unit, MUT-III or Lexia would be two options. I'm not sure that the ETACS has an entry for ABS, but it might. I does for airbags, for example. In any events, that's what you need to "see": the setting for the ABS. Vadimus in Canada is who I would ask.

as far as I know, mitsu makes them on demand. i.e. when there is some number of pre-paid requests (maybe 20 or 50, no idea) they put it on production line.

the ABS unit reads the speed from the wheels for the ECU. That is why RS from the factory has a same ECU unit as the other models.

The handbrake is also in the earlier models, disconnected the rear wheels to prevent the drive train from any damage and easier lock up. That is not unique for the X.
you kill more tire with wheel alignment then brakes without ABS.

I think of him as the Tephra of ETACS, although I'll bet that Tephra has been inside the ETACS, too.
