im buying a GTR, so i have no choice.... and I bet upshifting and downshifting is every bit as challenging as a stick and I can keep both hands on the wheel....

Manuals are fun, i wish the GSR had the 6 speed, but I understand the durability thing

You think depressing an electronic switch is challenging?

I think he was meaning that you still had to time just right when to shift the vehicle, and not that actually pushing the paddles was challenging.

Not flaming you (really! ) but if you like the "challenge" of a manual so much, please get an unsynchroed dogbox transmission with the heaviest, most finicky twin plate clutch you can find. Now *that* would be challenging.

People driving nicely synchronised consumer-oriented manual gearboxes boasting of the "challenge" of their "true" MTs is beginning to get to me.

BTW, I understand that MTs are much rarer than ATs in the US (which leads to the perception of only "true drivers" choosing MTs), but this is not the case in most other parts of the world. Most learner drivers are required to learn on MTs and knowing how to shift a stick is no big deal in most other parts. So all this talk of "challenge" is puzzling to me.

Actually, this thread started 5 days before yours, so technically you didn't "already do it".

Those transmissions were built for those cars. It doesn't mean the SST will be able to manage a power increase.

The MKV GTI DSG has known power limitations. Most go STG 2 and call it quits for fear of what "COULD" happen. It's an expensive transmission to replace. Sure there are upgrade options, but they cost a fortune and are not worth it IMO. I don't even think APR has released a STG 3 kit for the DSG yet, while 6MT kits have been out for some time. At the same time, other tuners have been sucessful (GT30) and have not had any issues. Also, the the Auto-Sport mode on the DSG is less than stellar, which forces you to use the paddles for ultimate perfomance. Based on the reviews, it sounds like Mitsu figured that part out !

It might be crazy comparing an EVO trans to one in a GTI, but I thought I'd share. Just because other dual clutch trans can hold big power like the examples above, doesn't mean that the SST will able to. If I had SST, I would preceed with caution down the mod path, and let some of the tuners beat the **** out of a few of them before trying any upgrades at all.

That being said, I haven't decided which trans I prefer in the EVO. I've been driving a DSG GTI for the last 2 years. Shifts are incredibly fast and crisp. The novelty of it has worn off a bit, but I'm not complaining when I'm sitting on the freeway during my 20 mile commute.

Well prefer to shift myself, but it is time for a change, on the other hand if the MR can not handle the horse power then it would be a waste of time to get.
