problem getting into reverse

so i woke up today to go to school and it was a colder then avarage morning in flordia... around 61 degrees...anyway when i try to put my car in reverse.... it wont get in gear...i thought i was doing something wrong...but 5 gear was a little hard to get into as well... so i had to fumble with my gear box for like 30 seconds before i could get the car into gear... but after i drove it a while everything was fine... is anyone else having this problem? should warming up the car fix this?

i've never had that problem, and my car hasn't even seen 60 degrees. hopefully it's a one time thing.

I already know you never had a DSM! At least a stick one.... The gearbox is far from perfect in some Evo's. I laugh at your "cold" at 61 degrees! I would kill for 61! Thats so hot! Don't worry to much about it till puts out a recall. Till than welcome to the habit that has plagued all us DSM owners... Shift into first than shift into reverse. Works like a charm.

Just my thoughts

the shifter bushings on evo's suck... my car and my friend's 9 are the same... just play around and shift while you're warming up in the morning so they're easier to put into gear

Mine does that every once in a while too. Put it in first, let the clutch out a bit to engage, then put it in reverse and you should be ok. It only seems to happen to me when the first gear I put it in is reverse after sitting a long time.

Shifting to reverse when cold is often difficult in a lot of cars. I wouldn't worry about it unless it persists even after the car has warmed up.

Doesn't matter if it's an EVO, eclipse, or whatever.. All manual trannies do that every once in a while. The synchros get out of alignment and going to 1st or 3rd before reverse aligns them back. No problem..

^^^Agreed! I even had a Exedy Hyper Racing Clutch in my Evo IV and sometimes (especially in Japan's winter) it was a real PITA to put it into reverse. Nothing to really worry about.

That's exactly what popped into my mind!! Yea First then reverse .. but also you can try lifting up on the clutch ever so slightly until u feel it pop in .. becareful not to stall it .. lol ..

I've never had it happen on a car with a synchronized reverse. You'd have to push the clutch in and hold it for a few seconds and let the synchros stop spinning, just don't make that a habit and you'll always be able to shift into reverse just fine.

This assumes the Evo does in fact have a synchronized reverse, of course. I don't know of any modern cars that don't, off the top of my head, so it seems likely.

On the Evo 8, you have to put it in 5th gear first when it's hard to get it in 1st or Reverse.
