Evo 9 to Evo X. Any regrets?
Intercooler spray? Not so useful, but fun to impress people with... LOL ... Really I got nothing... I liked my evo 8 seats better but thats the only real thing I can think of...
You have to realize that it will be tough for a X owner to say they wished they hadn't spend $35k just a few weeks/months ago.
I've had an STi, VIII, and tested the X a few times and I think they are all very similar, and the differences give each vehicle its unique 'personality'. Some like the rawness of the older evo's, others hate it, etc.

I wouldn't go back for a minute. I think the fit and finish is better on this car. The electronics are way better, and SAYC alone is the win^infinity. The seats are much better in the X, no back fatigue on a 2000 mile cross country trip, and super grippy. The chassis is just plain better. There are little things I miss, but the only thing I miss badly from my IX is its lighter curb weight.
you think the fit and finish is better although a lot of people are having problems with pedals falling off, ebrake handles falling off, staples coming apart in the seats, and rock chips all over the quarter panels? Im not trying to be a dick just pointing out that it appears the fit and finish has gotten worse on the X. Im not even going to mention that foam leather on the shift boot.
You're overstating by saying "a lot", when most all those things you mentioned have been isolated incidents.
There are two documented cases on here of pedals breaking out of all the cars out there. I have over 6000 miles on my car, went outside to inspect the pedal after I saw that thread, and it is just fine.
I have the stock Mitsu handle on my ebrake, its rock solid. I don't have the silver handle and knob.
My staples aren't showing in my Recaros.
I did have rock chips before I put on the mud flaps, and they sucked. But I did drive across the country through rain, snow, muck, desert, and the Advans pick up everything. They're not all over the quarter panels either, just in the area on the very bottom of the rear doors, and the ground effects.
The shift boot was cheap. I replaced it.
Now for the things on the X that have obviously better fit and finish to me:
When I compare the fit and finish of the cars, the first thing I think about is the chassis. The X is bolted together a lot more soundly, is much more solid over bumps, and the car has less rattles. Not nearly as much vibration is transmitted through the steering wheel as the older cars. The only rattle my car has is the latch on the glove box, which is easily fixed with a 25 cent velcro dot on the female side of the latching mechanism.
The glue came away from the seating spot on the Recaros in my VIII, it made the fabric bulge and looked terrible.
The temperature control slider for the HVAC mechanism on the VIIIs was really tough to move, got stuck, broke, or all three. The climate controls are nicer in the X than the VIII and IX.
Speaking of controls, the radio on the VIII and IX was cheap looking, not to mention it sounded as crappy as it looked.
The gauges in the X are much nicer and aren't nearly as cheap as the VIII and IX.
Will the X Recaros peel like the VIII and IX ones do? Man, I hope not. But I expect thet might.
The X wing is body color, and won't peel like the VIII and IX wings did.
no evo was build for refinement in mind...
and as you go the lower numbers on the line up , it is getting more and more obvious.
i have the throttle pedal so the aluminum shift knob and handle. They are looking good as just as they where brand new.
i think those issues are more user related then anything. But i can be wrong.
So no offense to anyone. But i never had broken parts inside my evo i ever had or i have driven. But i might be a lucky one.

i think that the whole rawness, or lack of refinement as others might call it, is the big question i have. that seemed to be quite an endearing quality of the older cars, hence why people that haven't even driven an evo 6 want one so badly. does that ever cross current X/ ex 8 or 9 owners minds, good or bad?
the evo 10 clearly takes a different direction in the refinement department (note my choice of words here, because some think that in doing so, mitsubishi added a good thing to whole of the car, while others think it's an unnecessary, possibly even taking away from the driving experience). considering that the evo, in price only, competes with a few BMWs that arguably are more complete cars, it's an interesting move.
i don't have any doubts that the new car is more capable and better all around in a wider range of driving modes. so here's the question posed another way: which one is more fun?

This does not belong in this thread, but I'll humor you. If you want to reply, I'll move my post and yours to the IX vs. X thread, so if it winds up missing, look there.

its old and outdated. not really a ''sought after'' car
IMO, you need to spend the time behind the wheel of an X. Or one modded to the level your IX is. I wish you lived a little closer.

what bugs me about my current car is the understeer at corner entry. it feels like an indoor cart where the chassis just binds up at the outside front wheel when carrying too much speed at entry. (and yes, i acknowledge that pilot technique is probably more to blame than the chassis) i could probably use some more camber up front, maybe a rear-diff service from TRE, but the solutions beyond that to get the car to act and feel less like a FWD get a little too compromising in my opinion. hence my attraction to AYC and the better F/R weight distribution of the 10. from what the more talented guys are saying, the 10 pretty much vectors torque immediately and therefore doesnt understeer at corner entry. i mean, that's yaw from the start ON throttle, if i understand correctly.
shoot, the stock suspension and alignment on the 10 feel almost as good as my 9 w/ clubsports, at least at <45mph going around parking lot islands with 4 people on board. love to hear what other track folks at higher speeds think.
