Evo 9 to Evo X. Any regrets?
I think the rear is the best side of the X, of course I've always been an *** man. I've driven both the X, VIII, and IX, but I can't wait to get my own X.
The X doesn't feel that heavy, as opposed to a G35 which feels like a boat comparatively. I'm really anxious to get into some twisties with it and show my buddy with his E46 what the car is capable of because he thinks that his bimmer is going to spank me.
My 86 944 has a rear wiper that doesn't work!

Nobody now's or has seen how the car will respond will a large turbo kit? The x is hideous, it looks like a suv espicially from the back and is very heavy for a 2 liter car. And is bad for straight line performance and the gearing is terrible in the x making it accellerate slower than previous models. Wow its got handling thats expected from newer cars these day but what happened to it's straight line performance? The x is lacking. The fact is most people will say its very ugly from the back. But a evo 9 is good looking all the way around. Do me a favor and lay down the crack pipe.
You know what is really funny is that I am sure the European and Japanese and all others who have head all of the variations on the Evo have argued the same thing. I can just hear it now when the VII came out...
"Oh my lord, that thing is HIDEOUS! What were they thinking?!? It is heavier, its is ugly OMG the sky is FALLING!! There will never be another Evo like my billy bad a$$ VI... Gosh, who would buy that thing?"
Back to topic, I think that Noize is right, if you want to go fast in a straight line the IX may prove to be the better choice as it starts out lighter and from what I gather can be made to be much lighter then the X. I have seen some VIII's and IX's on here that were down to 2600-2700lbs stripped of course. There is just more "stuff" on the X. I like going fast in a straight line, but I LOVE embarassing Porsches in the curves. My VIII was capable of keeping up with them in the curves, I can just imagine what the X will do....

Back on topic: i do not own a X, but i have driven one and although i feel it is a vary nice car I would not take the financial hit of trading in my ix for one. Maybe when the Xii comes out.

So there is your possibility to going down on weight.
I'm not a fan for drag race , so for me the 1/4 mile means nothing, we can make it up in the turns easy! at that is the fun part. Everything can be fast in straight with low budget... Like :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5S1NAMnYKM
so that is make the Smart car better then Ferrari?
and that is why the 1/4 mile for me , like the "Man Show"Fun to watch , but worth nothing.....

It is amazing how similar these discussions are on Subaru and Mazda boards for the new models coming out. Guys that have the older car don't WANT the new car to be better and pick on the areas where they are not.
Here's some from Carlos.
Well, I just read the edmund reviews from edmunds .com and it caught my attention that 6 out of 6 Evo X owners were complaining about the 5 speed Manual transmision.
# Review 1
Well I got a bad one, and started out on the wrong foot, I still dearly love my car, but at 1143 miles I required a new transmission. Suggested Improvements
The notchiness.
# Review 2
My new Evo X GSR has blown me away, but before I get to why, I'll note what's wrong: needs 6th gear in manual, better clutch. Suggested Improvements
ASC should always be turned off. Difficult to launch without burning clutch (Vishnu should provide this solution). 6th gear.
#review 3
Needs a sixth gear on the manual and a tighter gear pattern. Tough to launch without burning clutch. Suggested Improvements
6th gear for manual. better clutch
# review 4
Suggested Improvements
Manual transmission is super notchy into second and third gear. Needs taller fifth gear for fuel economy.
# review 5
Review
Lack of overdrive gear really kills highway mileage (3500-4000rpms); really bogs down below 3k rpms, still has turbo lag between 3-5k then starts to fall flat above 5500 rpm. Redline might as well be 5500 rpm. Suggested Improvements
Needs better tranny gearing, low end torque, interior comforts
#review 6

Gosh, I just got the car two days ago. So far, it is more solid than I expected, not an econobox at all. I have the 5 speed. You are doing around 3,000 rpm at 65mph. It needs a sixth gear.
With that being said this my be a turning point in favor of the MR. If the MR transmisison proves to be fast, durable and reliable then I give more credit to the MR. It is not just me saying it (I don't even own a Evo X) but the reviews came from the Evo X owners. It clearly looks to me that this time(unlike before) the Evo X 6 speed might be the ultimate winner.

See what I mean, CleverUserName? Now this thread is a name calling pissing match. You can read opinions until you are blue in the face, but until you get some real seat time in a X, everything will be subjective bullshat.
I can say the X is more fun because it handles better and you can provoke it into oversteer.

indeed sir, you can definitely say i told you so. but a lot of these responces really truly belong in the other thread where people freely comment on whatever they dislike. what irks me is that most of the replies thus far fail to ATFQ - answer the friendly question.
bringing up that the 10 is a first year car and the the 4G has almost 2 decades of development is like pointing out thhat the sky is blue. it's true but does not advance the conversation.
if i may, i'll restate the question - which one is more fun?

Of course I'm still keeping my 944!
This is opinion. I looked at a used EVO IX and thought it looked dated...looked good but dated. Sorry but it is true. Same with the '07 STi...it also looks like a refuge from the 90s. The EVO X looks like a modern car and really the first EVO who's style begins to match the price tag and powertrain.
