Where does a tow hook (for track use) fit on the Evo X? It looks like there is a round piece of plastic that could be removed on the front bumper. Is the thread for a hook behind there? Has anyone installed a tow hook? If so, can you recommend a good quality tow hook and where to get one?

Also, to get away quickly from the line, is the "launch control" simply to put the SST in manual, keep your foot on the brake while pressing the gas to get to about 4,000 rpm, and then lift off the brake? I could not see anything in the owner's manual about this.

There is no place to put it. They forgot about that for the US version.

 

Looks like the plastic square in the front bumper can be removed for the tow hook (could be wrong though). Check out http://japanparts.com/ . Search for Mitsubishi Evolution X. Under HKS (on the first page) there are some tow hooks & the last pic under HKS shows the tow hook location.

 

The black cover comes off but there is no place for a hook behind it. Its just a metal bar.

Yea thats really lame. But I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to make something out of that area.

 

I have a dumb question, why do you need a tow hook at the track? I would only imagine needing one if I broke something.

 

quick access to a hitch instead of using ones under the car that can sometimes not be accessible

 

When your car stalls and is on the track, other cars are flying towards you at 100mph. They need to get you off the track ASAP and don't have time to search for a place to hook up a tow cable to your car, thus you leave an exposed tow eye, and often times race cars have big red arrows pointing to the tow eyes as well.

of course we have holes in both bumpers for tow eyes, but no hole to put a tow eye in or the eyes themselves. stupid.

 

thats because mitsu america doesnt want us racing the car.. having available tow hook spot would let us race easier :P

 

check out blacktracks car....he has a hook installed (from his website pics)....looks like it fits in the front bumper-quick check on mine, and it has a bolt that will come out so you can install the hook-
