I didn't think TPMS would affect the ASC either... Did it return to normal function when you put the road tires back on?
Are you kidding? They can barely hang with me.

And it does return to normal function with the road tires. I'm wondering if anyone else has there ASC affected when they remove TPMS sensors.

I Dont have TPMS sensors on my NT03's and I have never had any issues with ASC turning off...... My TPMS lights stay on, but no issues... My X has been to the track 6 times now. No issues.

That's interesting. I guess it might be just unique to my car. Or something is damaged on my car. Hopefully, it can be an easy fix. But one thing for certain is that SWAC on this car is amazing. The difference with SWAC on and off is huge.

No issues here either, sounds like an odd problem. Hope you get it resolved.

PS, I see Brownbos!

Brownbos are abusedBOs, and abusedBOs mean you drive your car, not throw expensive semi-functional parts on and let people gawk at it with half naked women.

Racing your evo ftw!

I wonder if once you cook the stock calipers black you could re-paint with a higher temp paint without having to strip the stock paint? Seems like a good base coat haha...

Way to go tracking the car, hopefully you will get the AYC back again.

There really isn't any higher temp paint that's going to last. I've had several Big Brake Kits on my other cars, and they all turn black. So I just buy a kit with black paint. And if you look at SCCA racing cars, they usually don't paint the caliper.

I think you might be misunderstanding what the acronyms all stand for and what they do, and althouh asc might have been turned off along with the rest of the SAWC features, your problem was the AYC being off if you were understeering. ASC cuts power to wheels that are spinning and applies brakes to indivdual wheels. It doesn't prevent understeer, that's what AYC does. AYC sends more power to the outside loaded rear wheel, inducing slight oversteer. This coupled with the center diff having a more aggresive torque split to the rear wheels on the tarmac setting gives the car it's ability to rotate. If SAWC was turned off then AYC and the ACD's aggressive torque split was not working and you were most likely at a 50/50 power split and had no AYC, thus the understeer. On all the backroads that I go on I turn off asc completely and the *** end rotates so much better and the car is willing to powerslide, which is fun. With asc on, it makes the car easier to drive but takes the fun out of things. The magazines have all put down faster lap times with ASC turned off as well. Either way, let us know if you find out what happened and why it happened, cause I'm sure that a lot of us are curious about running into this problem if we change wheels and tires.

you can try putting all 4 sensors in the spare tire so they read 30psi and that should work.

You're absolutely right. If you press the ASC button, it turns off the traction control. If you press and hold the ASC button, doesn't it turn off the AYC?? Because my fastest lap times was through just pressing ASC button, but not turning it off completely.

If you press it and hold it then it turns off traction control AND the braking control function of the ayc mechanism, but not the ayc itself. The braking control of the ayc is like the braking control of the asc except that it doesn't cut power to the spinning wheels in conjunction with the braking of individual wheels. It will apply the brakes to the left and right REAR wheels only, usually the unloaded inside wheel. This helps to control the amount of powersliding that the car does to maximize the track times.

Oversteer and powersliding is good in small doses but too much (although lots of fun) is not helpful and can actually hurt track times. Again, I think that your problem was that all aspecs of SAWC were disabled in your case, causing you to lose the center diff settings (which means no aggressive rear torque split in the tarmac setting) and no AYC; the X's two most powerful tools in preventing understeer. I still don't understand why having your TPMS disabled would have any effect on this though, that's really wierd.

Good info! I just found out that it's not related. There is something wrong with my SWAC programming. I thought it was related to TPMS, because both "SERVICE SOON" light came on at the same time. I don't know what's causing it. SouthCoast Mitsubishi is trying to figure it out.
