Who cares if it beats it "tuned" your not stock, your putting your car at risk and your gas mileage went out the window.

Stock for stock the 370Z is faster. Plain and simple.

 

^ I know what you mean (and for that, the way I refer to a "stock"car is technically incorrect), strictly speaking a tune is a software mod, thereby no longer making the car stock. It's just my "personal" way of seeing it... a tune on the X for me is basically what the car should have been in the first place (or maybe to a certain degree). Mitsu just did an awful job on the factory tune that it cripples the X's true potential. In my opinion (and mine alone) a stock car for me is a car that has no changes or additions to the hardware (like boltons)... but not necessarily on the "software" part of the car.

A good comparison then would be a tuned "stock" EvoX vs. a tuned "stock" 370z on the dyno since the argument started on this thread is car-A's HP vs. car-B's HP. This way, it takes out the factor of weight & handling. Just straight-up engine power/crank-HP comparison, which do you think will come out ahead?

The Z is a great car, but it's not for me. I've had enough of two seaters now that I'm a family man.

 

I'll never understand people who compared a car like the 370z to an Evo X. It's as if they are 18 years old or have no idea about driving.

The 370 is a great car and I've driven one through my twisty roads as well as the 350. But compared to an Evo it's just not in the same class, capable though it may be.

That doesn't mean the 370 would get dusted by an Evo either. It just means than the S-AWD system and yaw control yields a type of driving experience that is unique. Additionally the Evo X extends this ability into rain and snow and dusty roads where RWD sports cars have fun at all.

The Evo X is fast, but that's not what makes it special. It's got James Bond handling. It's not a brute; it's about finesse and amazing feedback and dialing in twisty roads better than many supercars. I don't know how people on this list who've driven one (or even read the reviews) don't get that yet.
A 370z is entirely different and can't be compared. It's great in an entirely different way and barely competes with the Evo.

Sorry to say this but if you're torn between a 370 or X you have a long, long, long way to go as a driver.

And how is a tune going to get my gas mileage out of the window? I had my X reflashed to the latest by the dealer and I'm getting 2MPG more. Most people who had their stock Xs professionally tuned not only gained huge whp but also gas mileage... check the tuning forums for yourself.

At risk you say? As long as the tune is done by a very reputable tuner... I have yet to see reports of their Xs (as long as the hardware is stock) getting damaged, provided they don't abuse their cars.

 

I have to agree the 370Z is a different car. More a grand touring car vs the rawness of the Evo. A closer competitor to the 370Z would be a BMW 335i.

Just speed and numbers does not differentiate between cars. It is all about the experience of being behind the wheel. Just like a GT-R is not necessarily better than a 911 turbo even though it is faster.

 

Russell, let us know what part numbers we would need for the flip up storage containers in the center console.

 

Intake and exhaust isn't getting 80 whp from 350Z's.

 

If that's the case, then that implies that the MR as standard does not include leather seats, which would be...weird.

 

Suspect they're full leather on the Touring, leather/suede on the base MR.

 

A stock HR 350z dyno's ~270whp. Intake, full exhaust, and tunes are putting them around 300-320whp. Been there seen it...it's not 80whp...more like 35-40whp. If you don't know the difference on the HR motors I suggest you do some research.

Also on the handling comments I hope most realize a stock 370z is faster around a racetrack than a X is. Put it on a short tight track though and that where the X does better.

 

I suggest you do research. Stock 350Z's have dynoed everywhere from 227 - 255 whp but rarely, rarely more. 370Z's are puttting down 255-260 on dyno.

 

I only responded to someone else that had brought up the 370Z. And as to the AWD being so great, it dosnt mean much on dry roads, it helps some in the rain but who races in the rain? And in the snow all it does is get you going fast enough so you can slide right off the road like everyone else does, right into a tree. It wont help you brake, or stop you from going into a slide.

 

^ I never questioned the capabilities of the 370Z, it's gotten awesome reviews for one of the best $30K RWD coupes in terms of power & handling. My point is simple, someone listed a bunch of comparable cars and bashed the X for having the lowest crank HP... so I merely posted that I think the reason for this is Mitsu Engineers somehow screwed up the factory tune and made it run too rich and inefficient. If they did their job, they could have tuned the car correctly and rated the car with a higher crank HP... matching it with the 370Z's stock 332HP would have been an easy target. It seems Nissan engineers are getting paid better than Mitsus!

 

Umm pal I been around 350z's quite awhile. Do you know the difference in the HR motors? You are quoting numbers from older DE motors. What type of dyno are you talking about? On a dynojet it is common for HR (07-08 350z) to put down 260-270whp stock. The newer 370z are putting down 280+whp stock. If you want me to start linking results from my350z I will but this is already far too OT.
