intercooler with just an intake worth it?

im installing hks intake and UICP no cat back mod as I want to keep the car quiet,

is it worth to install an FMIC ? i do a lot of highway driving
i see 10wph gain but is that on a stock car or one with CBE?

Just trying to figure out if its worth to spend the 600$ for 6wph per se

You likely will not see huge gains from an aftermarket FMIC until you upgrade the turbo. The OEM unit flows well for the stock setup. However, you will notice more consistency from upgarding the FMIC during hot/humid days since it should lower the temps better.

+1

If you don't have a tune yet definitely go with that or you can buy an AP and you will be much happier than dropping $600 on an intercooler with your mod list.

A better, more efficient intercooler is always a nice upgrade. Although, as others said theres always better ways to make power first.

add a UR metal sub High flow cat to your list, leave the rest of the exhaust and you will at least get a little benefit from the intercooler, but a custom tune is a must. If you did not buy the intercooler yet, forget it, buy a K & N drop in, high flow cat and a tune you will be very happy, and not much to change to take in for any service if you need. Also quiet , your welcome.

The power gains from a FMIC do not warrant the price tag unless you really need the increased cooling or are going for full bolt-ons before a tune, etc. There are other mods you should install before a FMIC.

I installed a small 3" ETS FMIC and it was worth 10-20whp during the tune at Cobb. I got a deal from someone ($275 used) or I wouldn't have bought it, but it really seems to keep my WHP consistant in the heat of summer.

Overall, the tune is far more important then a FMIC. TTP has shown what they can do with a stock car. If you look at my Cobb vs TTP dyno thread and then compare it with another thread showing tuning results of a "stock" Evo X, you'll see what I'm talking about.

So my short answer is that its not worth it unless you have money to waste.

Bigger IC is always good just cause your stock one soaks up more heat than an aftermarket one. It will help all around performance, but you may not see big power gains.
