I am going to attempt my first ever clutch install tomorrow. I am pretty nervous but I should be fine. I'll have a lift and all the tools I could ask for on hand. I am doing a clutch/flywheel/CMC in one sitting so I'm pretty sure my entire weekend will be shot lol. Any tips would be great. I have the MAP performance how-to write up that should guide me but any extra tips would help.

all i can say is good luck! Did a clutch on my STI before and it was a breeze, compared to when i had done my cluthc on this car. I would recommend taking your time and being patient as i ran into many situations where i was gettin very frustrated.

 

I looked through the MAP how-to before and can't remember if it says anything about this, but you will need to get an alignment when you're all done. I had someone do my clutch recently. They got close on the alignment, but it needed someone who could do it right.

 

an alignment wil definitely be a must, i also do remmeber putting the transfer case back on was the hardest part, as you cannot see when trying to line up the input shaft. It was literally "threading a needle".

 

Thanks, I just bought new tires to put on during the clutch install as well. I'll take it after I'm done.

 

Make sure you crimp tge ACD line with vicegrips prior to removing the banjo bolt...this prevents the need to bleed the system after a clutch install....oh and the driver side cv axle is a b***h to remove...lol. in all reality the job isnt that hard but that cmc is a freekin pain. Make sure you have plenty of beer with you lol.

 

And why does he need an alignment exactly? The inner or outer tie rod ends are not touched or adjusted...his camber/toe in/caster will not be affected...unless he adjusts the inner or outer tie rod he will be fine. Just installed my clutch about 1500 miles ago with the help of Carolina Dyno...no alignment needed.

 

Crimping off your the acd line isn't full proof to not have to bleed your system. You can make enough room by just pushing it out of the way. Heck when I did mine I didn't even completely remove my downpipe just unbolted it from the turbo and pushed it to the side.

 

I think its easier to take the engine out the top. Removing the trans from the bottom was such a nightmare. If i were to do the job again, thats what I would do.

 

Got pretty much everything ready for the transmission to be dropped. Shop closed as we were starting to disengage the TOB. We got hung up on that a bit trying not to break anything. Picking up tomorrow at 9am

 

Well we got in the CMC but the clutch just absolutely kicked our butt. So many bolts wouldn't come out that we just threw in the towel. I've never felt so defeated before lol.
