Thumbs up so what happened here..need diagnosis

i am going to give as much info as possible..some of it may be relevant who knows..yesterday i was coming home from work on a hot day (car was reading 30 degrees Celcuis/86 F) i filled up with 94 octane..jumped on the highway and then the car died on me..i started it up and as i try to pull away it just dies on me again..now what i noticed was that the fuel gauge was reading close to empty..i had called the tow truck..but while waiting for about 20 min i did not feel very safe in the position my car was so i started it up again and slowly started driving on the shoulder of the highway..suddenly the fuel gauge slowly started to increase so i just kept driving while constantly giving the car gas because i felt like it would shut down if i let off...so i just kept driving and after about 5 minutes the gauge was back up to full and the car was good as new like nothing happened so i just drove home..my car has got lots of km on it and relatively stock..only other problem i have noticed is that the idle when cold and hot is a bit jumpy but not too crazy...my guess is a bad fuel pump? or maybe the ecu temporarily went crazy.. what do you guys think?

You said mostly stock - I will assume you kept OEM fuel pump so perhaps dirty OEM fuel filter / temporary clog in filter?

I remember reading 80K is the mileage at which we should get the fuel filter/sock changed per somewhere on here but I can't find the sauce this morning.

But then I don't know how that would affect your fuel gauge to read Empty either.

yes i have got the oem fuel pump..yeah the empty fuel gauge is what has got me confused..seemed like the computer system was tricked somehow into thinking car had no gas but then it just readapted as i drove away..anyone know if a bad fuel pump would cause this? you might be on to something about a clog in the filter..that makes sense to me ill have my shop check that out

Rough idling could be the injector relay.... some people just change the fuel pump relay, some change them all because there's more than one of the defective ones. Perhaps only the fuel pump relay got fixed, and now another one is going bad?
