BTW, just wanted to add that per the service manual, the torque spec for the drain bolt is 29+/-3 lb-ft.

Hey thanks for the great writeup.

I have a question though, I got a new crush washer from the dealer with the new filter, but when I took my drain plug out it did not have one on it.

Plus the new crush washer is an unusual shape (I'm used to the plain flat type), its this double ring thing. That looks like its already on the drain plug (I checked its not the old crush washer on the drain plug, it won't come off).

Am I ok in using the crush washer, should I skip it?

Thanks!

I just performed an oil change this weekend and yes the crush washer is semi-donut shaped. It is not simply a flat washer, its kind of a puffy ring.

I had trouble removing the old crush washer from my drain plug, but after a few taps with a screwdriver it came off.

If I were you, I'd remove the old crush washer from the drain bolt (if one is present) and use the new crush washer that came with your OEM filter. Hope this helps

Duh, found the thread that indicates the crush/drain washer that comes with a new car is painted black. Found it got it off and replaced.

i can't seem to find 5w30 from where i'm from. does it matter if i use 5w50 instead? apparently because we have summer weather all year long, most of the local workshop don't carry 5w30 oil.
