yeah the Subi tranny isnt the best, theres an 03 with 6k miles on it at the shop im takin my evo in to get a new clutch and exhaust and it lost 2nd gear, Subi wont warranty the tranny because "they know its been raced" aparently the guy dropped from 3rd to 2nd at 40 mph! thats pretty ignorant, i dont know of or havent driven a car that cant go atleast 40 in 1st gear if not then pretty close to it....but ive heard rumors that Subi gave out SCCA memberships and encouraged racing, but then i heard they are strict like Mitsu is......like a few said it came down to looks, and well rarity and i took the EVO, lol now im seein them everywhere!! my friend Ben bought a yellow one a couple weeks ago!!

03 wouldn't be a STi, and there is a huge difference between wrx 5spd and sti 6spd tranny. There aren't much complains on the sti tranny.

Why not get the '05 Mustang which should be out soon? It has a trunk, 5 seat belts and is equally powerful. Probably costs less too, is more styish and has a clutch/transmission that is bullet proof.

I currently own an EVO but yesterday I test drove a STI and honestly performance wise I believe that the STI stock to stock is a little better than the EVO. But then again you can modify a EVO alot more than u can with the STI, plus I'm an Evo fan, i'll never turn to Suburus!!

I use to own an 03 evo and even used it to auto X. I had no problems with the clutch or the transmission. I would like to think that I drove the car fairly hard and during that time I never had any problems. However, I never drag raced the car which probably accounts for the majority of the clutch and Tranny problems. One car magazine said, the 05 STI seems slower and down on power when compared to the previous models. This is purely speculation but subie has been having problems with detonation. Maybe they detuned the carr to make it more reliable. I think the evo is a more of a drivers car than the STI. If you read evo magazine it states that for 05 subie gave STI for some markets the same suspension as the Spec "C". I think that even though it has not been made public I think the US 05 STI does have the suspension geometry and basic set up of the Spec "C". Basically you can't go wrong with either car. However, I hope this info helps in your decision.

I have to say I'm very happy with my 03 Evo. I have yet to have any problems, though I don't do 7k clutch drops and try to race every car on the road. I own a Subie as well and have been very happy with it. I test drove the Sti recently cause I am still a huge Subie fan, but I have to say my Evo with mods is the heat! I love the sound of the boxer engine, but l love the overall feel of my Evo.

Well, ill just say that you should get an 05 STi. I got one, and my friend has a slightly modded EVO VIII. His car is nice and fun to sit in when he drives, and his seats are cool, but my sti is nice. My sti is actually a little quicker than his...but its still a driver's race. I just like the sti styling more, and the looks, but this is an evo forum, so i really dont have much of a place here.

My best friend has an STI and I have an EVO, The STI's steering just feels very numb. It cant touch the EVO on driving feel. It does feel to have a little more torque stock for stock, but the tuning potential of the EVO makes my friend really sad. But.... Vishnu just released a new stage 1 package for the STI that my friend just bought, and Shiv told him it will make 50 WHP and sick levels of torque. It depends on the driving feel you want. Quick accurate? or Numb and torquey. Both cars are great, my friend said he would get the Evo if he had to do it again.
