Will i Still Hace a Chance
so you're parents are paying half and you're "close to having the other half"..with that said..if and when you finally get the full 20k to pay your half..you will have how much left over for insurance and maintenance? 0? i'm not trying to be mean but i researched everything except maintenance costs when i bought this car and it hit me in the face like a brick..the average clutch lasts 15-20k miles replacement with labor is at least 1000 dollars..the tires last an average of 20k miles..the replacement cost mounted is about 1200 dollars..oil changes at the dealer are around 50-60 dollars using the synthetic oil..gas required is 93 octane and if you're like me and drive 400-500 miles a week its not exactly cheap..eventually if you dont crash and die you'll want to mod and that can get expensive and addicting..changing the lsd, transfer case, and tranny fluids, getting your tires rotated and balanced, probably your rotors resurfaced after a few thousand miles of not using the tranny to slow down..basically what i'm saying is that you barely have enough money to get the car now and the maintenance costs are higher than any vehicle i've ever owned..so this is only my .02 but theres nothing wrong with like an 04 wrx used thats been taken care of..and even then you can get used to the power and no you dont have to buy a new car in 6 months..you can mod at that point when you get used to an awd turbo...plenty of people have some sweet modded wrx's that I'd love to whip around at the track..anyways good luck and be safe.

I might not have the track experince, but like a little street race and daily driving i do. Well my parents are paying for half of the car that i buy. Ive saved up about 15 thousand and hope to get at least 2 or 3 grand out of my car, which takes my up to almost 20k which is my half. I live in colorado and with the snow i think it would be better to have a awd car. I am graduating early, January 20th so i guess my writing skills must be all right. But when is the evo X supposed to have a relase date anyone know. They seem to always realse a little earlier and how much more hp will it have then the evo 9 mr. But ive seen some pics in other posts of the evo x and it looks ugly but it is like a drawing that someone did, so i doubt that it would look exactly like that.

you also forgetting the things that come with being young (no disrespect to any young owners). things like peer pressure, being targeted by cops, high insurance rate , street racers (the guys that rev at you when you are standing still at a stop light) etc.. all play a big part in a desicion like this.
lol well as you noticed hopefully i put "average" as in I've been on this board for a while now and have taken note of peoples claims and taken a rough estimate of the average..my tires lasted 27k miles..a lot of people selling theres with 12 k miles on them still have good tread that people have posted in their pics and so on..i mean i'm on my stock clutch at 34k miles and i know people who have gone through at 5k miles so again i took a rough estimate of the average..maybe its too generous but even then with the average actually being lower thats even more argument for this kid not to get the car based on high maintenance..i want to go drive now haha

Well for the maintence goes my dad is a mechanic, so that solves alot of probelms. He can do rotors, clutches etc. Kinda off topic but how long(miles) would you say it takes to break in a new evo.

I think you will get your new Evo IX drive it for a few months then loose your license or total it. If that doesn' happen you will beat the snot out of it and daddy will make you sell it because he is tired of paying to replace broken parts.
The odds are against you, may the band play on.

to answer your question evovsti, most people go by the 1000 miles break in method but it varies by what you beleive. some people say that you do not need to baby the car at all and can just start beating it off the lot. other say that you should drive 1000 miles in varied speed and different gears to help the parts get a good solid seal. some (ii did) go by the rising break in method. in this one, you basically raise your rpm limit after few miles. for example, for the first 200 miles, do not go above 3500 rpm. in the next 200 miles you can bring it up to 4500 and by 600 you can get it up to 5500 rpm's.
choose your poison...
