long as you are safe driver, i don't see any problem of 17 year old with evo. it just hard to stay away from street racing at that age. Just respect all driver on the road and drive safe. My buddy own an evo too, he is married (28 year old). He still drive like a dick. he love to speed up and cut off the mini van, driving crazy in the parking lot.

Where did I even remotely talk about the mechanics or information about an evo? I don't know JACK **** when it comes to evos. I know alot when it comes to morals and common sense. Looks like you lost in that category though. Go back to your garage, where you feel at home.

You know I think we need to get a poll going on this site to see what the average age of the members is.

Im 19, I paid for my evo and my truck. Its a long story that involves alot of inheritence, so dont say young people cannot afford a evo. As far as being in debt for one, i thought you had to be atleast 18 to get approved preiod. So someone had to co sign, so in a way the parents are buying the car cause if you dont pay its mostly there a** not yours.

With the being said my first car was a z28 camaro, the the GST, then the GSX. All were modded with parents wallets and i expect to get nothing but flames for admitting this but i do so to maybe help the younger guys( i know a few years doesnt seem like much but it is.) I GOT IN ALOT OF TROUBLE. so many tickets i almost lost my license to sum it all up. I thought i was invincible to be honest, but that all changes when you have a couple freinds die in car wrecks that were completely avoidable. I know all you guys have heard the stories, but trust me that feeling youve got inside that it wont happen you is wrong. It can all end in one turn, and when its a good freinds funeral your at right before there 17th bday you realize jsut how easy it is. Im not going to flame anyone for being young with one, just becareful because things do get a little out of hand sometimes at that age. Just becareful.

Im on both sides of the discussion here, im young with a evo and i would deffinitly not ever get one for my kid. I would most deffinitly want my kids to have fun no doubt, but i would want them to be able to have fun for the rest of there life.

P.S. I also had a brand new r6, and the same day i talked my mom into buying the bike she took a big insurane policy on my ***. but i still love my mom.

No names here, but to the folks that have an EVO and do not pay for absolutely EVERYTHING associated with that car, ***but***think they are a responsible EVO owner; and by that I mean:
The car payment
the insurance
the gas
the maintenance
the taxes
the place to store it

Please stop telling us how much of a mature and responsible person you are, as you obviously are not. There is nothing wrong with people helping you out with your car, but to come across as entirely self-sufficient and indignant when we call you on it is just wrong. Saying "my parents bought me the car and I'm enjoying it" will get you a little flamage, but it will be all good in the end. Although there may be a small handfull of 17 y/o's paying for the car and everything else and who are mature beyond their years, the rest of you are pathetic.

You have no idea. Firstly, it is you telling us that we are immature, not us telling you that we are mature. Nobody here is claiming we are entirely self-sufficient. You're pathetic for judging anybody before you know the case. Don't bother responding, as I've made my mind up about you. Your parents payed at one time for you to eat. That means without them, you wouldn't be here owning an evo today. That is how STUPID you sound.

1- No car payment
2-Insurance covered by the money back from my scholarships
3- Work at advance auto parts when im not working my *** off with school
4- I dont beat on my car but i make enough from number 2 to put back roughly 2 to 300 a month for emergencys.
4- Covered by number 2
5- My driveway, my garage, The shop.......

So do i clasify as pathetic.
Oh and the story is pretty much the same for my truck, but it classified as a company truck for my family business so taxes and insurance and such is covered because druing my breaks from school im a laborer for our brick mason crew.

STILL to this day, i dont want to sell it because i am afraid i cant afford a NEWER car(FYI, i was looking at a 20th anni. golf, it is like 14.5k and im afraid i cant afford it!!) how the hell are kids affording $30,000 sports cars with out any "help from mommy and daddy." the reason i am venting here is i believe that evo's are meant for people ON SALARY, not hourly wages, and especially not kids who have NO BACKGROUND CREDIT. so a question to liljj, if you ARE paying for this car (which at your age, im not really sure how you are making a sufficient amount to afford this car??) do you plan to mod it at all?

dude, just trust your elder's here(and as many of his fellow 18yo buddies want to step-up and defend him, go ahead), but THEY WILL ALL TELL YOU, it isnt very wise to go out and put yourself 30,000grand in debt......

-I understand your passion/anger.

Where I grew up I could safely say that 99% of people under 18 did not have a car.

Now I live in an area where most 18 year olds have a car, and in many cases expensive cars (let's say $30,000+).

-The fact is that more and more young people are driving and getting cars. The culture has changed where having a car has become a right of passage instead of a privelige.

For those younger people that can afford an Evo comfortably at such a young age; more power to you, but you are the exception to the norm.

From what I've seen many of the younger (let's say under 20) have taken great financial risk in getting an Evo just for the satisfaction of having an Evo.

Honestly, this entire scenaio is not to be unexpected.

If I were 18 again, had some decent money (earned by whatever mean), you can bet I'd have a nice car.

-Example: My first car was a 2000 Audi S4, which I paid for all by myself (gas, insurance, whatever) after saving 2+ years after graduating from college. The funny thing is that my 17 year old cousin (22 now) had a 2001 VW Golf GTi which was bought for him by my uncle.

This was about 3-4 months prior to me getting my car. Bottom line: My 17 year old cousin had a 2001 VW Golf GTi (paid for by my uncle) before I even had my first car (2000 Audi S4 paid for by me after saving 2+ years after graduating) despite being 7 years older.

It's funny in hindsight, but at that time it pissed me off.

This 29 year old has officially typed too much.

I posted this in the forum, you replied in the same, so here it is.
I have nothing against anybody. I will take it point by point also:

You have no car payment. I will assume you paid for it in full.
Your insurance is covered by scholarships you worked for. Fine.
You work for the gas $$$.
You make enough from the scholarships to cover the maint.
Your taxes are covered by the scholarships also.
You have a place of your own that you rent/lease/own that you store the car. Fine.

If the above is true, so be it. You are doing it right (AFAIC). Like I said, it's ok if people here are being helped out, I just resent people who front as if it is all them, when they actually get help. No worries

That is cool, and you do not classify as 'pathetic' as you are not trying to be something that you're not. It's all good.

Why do you think everybody is getting on you about the 'minvan' comment? We are talking in broad terms.

You confronted purecoda about assuming a generalize statement on this 17y/o, when in fact he didn't assume, liljj221 open his mouth and stated what purecoda noted, so how is that assuming?

Your 'minivan' statement and your "it's not costly", and "its not an arm and a leg... it's possible " statement based on insurance made it seem like it's a cool breeze and do-able, yet your sitting nicely under your parents, with no worries. Let's be real, how much would it be on your own, since right now with your parents your only pay 1800. Like I said early, the car note of the evo ain't bad, it's the insurance and gas that kills.

I agree. I don't care how many autox class you took, or how many times you got a 100% complete on GT4, it's a thoughtless move to please your highschool kid.

There is already a couple of them. I believe the average age was low 20's.

You can talk in any terms you would like. In my terms, if I was driving around my other option (a Volvo S70) the insurance would be almost the same. A S70 isn't exactly a race car.

Lets get something straight. It is a breeze. I like my job, so working isn't a pain. Money comes easy. At one point in time you were sitting on your parents insurance in the same way. It doesn't matter if I'm driving a minivan or an evo, I'd me on my parents insurance. Removing myself would be stupid for any reason with any car. That has NOTHING to do with what I drive. It has to do with how things are. In the majority of cases if the kid is driving a minivan or a lamborghini, they are on their parents insurance.

you dont understand about being on your parents insurance...I will tell you why its the STUPIDEST thing to do especially when younger drivers have a car like the evo. If GOD FORBID you hit someone and criple them for the rest of their lives... YOUR PARENTS will lose it all (because theyre the policy holders and hold responsibility for you). If youre on your own policy they cant take much from you (you dont own a house or anything that valuable) Thus why I dont understand why any parent would put their child driver on their policy just to save some money. ESPECIALLY an unexperienced one with a super-car I have never been and never will be on my parents insurance for that very reason. But some parents decide to be cheap by just adding the kids to their policies until they learn the hard way unfortunately. Everything that your parents have worked for their whole lives (house cars etc.) is riding on you everytime you start your vehicle (atleast thats how i look at it). My kids will never be on my policies when i have them

Your partially right, it's consider a sports - luxary car, and luxary cars are not consider 'cheap' to insure. For example, in some markets the RSX-S cost more to insure than the evo, and the RSX-S isn't a race car either, but it is a luxary brand from a higher tier automotive group compare to Mitsubishi.

They help 'pay' for the car, if that includes money down, co-signer or both... they in some form paid for his car. If you want to get technical than no, he doesn't come out right saying "they paid for it in full", but it has been stated before that it would be hard press for a 17y/o to pay for a 30k+ car on his complete own with no help from ANYONE. There is only a few cases, and im figuritevly speaking (based on past age/payment of evo owner threads) that 2% of the 17y/o evo population can say that.

If it's a breeze, pay for it yourself and jump off mom and dads note. For the record, knowing that it was cheaper I have never, ever been on my mother car insurance. Even before I thought about asking she told me 'no'. I man up and told myself it I want this car (my 01 sentra SE at the time) I have to show maturity and responsability of doing things on my own. If I can't afford (payment wise and insurance wise) than I don't need this car, and I don't need to be dragging on mom and dad leg for help or in your case, as you said:
