I dont care how rich I am....if I ever have kids and they ask for a sports car for the first car I will tell them NO!

There are many reasons behind this:

1) I would feel like **** if he crashed it and lost a leg or was a vegetable
2) He would not value it if he did not work for it
3) He would get hated on by other kids

Now with that said, I would get my kid a beater....like something safe, but cheap. Something that didnt have too much power or flash, but not a total bucket. It would be automatic first. If he can prove to me good driving skills then we get an equal car that is stick to learn manual after a year of automatic. After that he can work for his own car and I will teach him how to work on it.

In fact I wouldnt even tell my kids I would pay for college. I would tell them to pay for college by themselves. Once they graduate I will pay the loan off as a gift.

Too many kids these days, including many of my friends had parents that paid for college and totally screwed up and spent all day smoking weed and getting F's because they didnt give a $hit. If they paid for it themself then they will take school seriously. Its no wonder there are more dropouts now than ever before. Its not that the kids are dumb, they just lack motivation because everything is being done for them and have their hands out

not to sound like an asshoel or anything... my first car was a 2002 s4.. and i got it brand new before i got my license..by the time i had my license it was 400hp and not a damn thing happened to it... to my dad 40k was cheap and a deal... have you thought that might be a possibilty... that a 35k car is a deal for these parents.. my sister just turned 16 and is asking for a clk500 convertible... thats in the 70's i believe.. not 100%.... papa dukes was happy i only wanted a 40k car..

think that one over...

and when u try to flame me.. he bought me my first car and only that one... and i got a taste of what hard work gets ya and at 20 i just opened my first business 2 months ago and its doing very well.. a party supply store.. so im on the road to success... i graduate college pretty soon i have 98 credits... i pay my way and work for it... but when something is given to me for free, i'd be an idiot not to take it...

cheers!

Man... when I was 17, I drove around in a Chevy Celebrity 2-door that I made payments on working at a car wash. If you can pay for your Evo, more power to you.

Just please, please don't race it on city streets! I realize hardly nobody will admit to doing it, but you know if you do...

My reply was not to lecture anyone. My reply was to put out my personal opinion. There was a guy on the last page that said that the reason to work hard is so u can buy your kid an evo when he turns 16......and i said that I wouldnt no matter how much money I had.

I totally agree with you ion accepting free stuff. Hey my ITR I got when I was in high school. It was a 27,000 dollar car. My parents bought it for me. I worked to put all the parts on it and worked to go to track days. I'm not saying I have never been given anything for free. I am definitely part of the "lucky gene pool" but I was just stating that I would not do what my parents did.

Especially considering that cars have MORE and MORE power these days.....Camry has 280 hp !!!.....I mean seriously think about it....in twenty years if we still have gas powered cars they are going to have econoboxes with like 500 hp and I will not let my kid die for one.

Those are my personal opinions. I didnt mean to hate on anyone. I just think that too many kids dont appreciate what they have and when given something they open their hands up and wait for the next handout. I am 23 and have finished my econ degree and am working in real estate. I have only recently learned to appreciate the things my parents have done.

All I am saying with this post is be VERY GRATEFUL to your parents. And do NOT EXPECT handouts for your whole life. Someday you have to grow up and it feels damn good to pay for things on your own.

I'm glad we can agree! i know know of 15 decent people on here lol every person is different and every1 handles the excitment of having a cool car differently... there are 35-55 year old guys on here that fly everywhere they go and have high powered cars... when they get into accidents its always oh man **** happens, are you okay... when a younger guy gets into one hes automatically guilty... ex. kid gets hit by a dui in the back... "Well ya shouldnt have been there at that time and braking too fast... brembo's are for track use not the street" lol.... and there have been comments like that lol

cheers!

ps love the type R's!!

Everyone has their own lifestyle...
I am 28, I work my *** off for my evo...and that's how it is for me and don't bother others, my life is too busy to be occupied by other's life.
But like everyone say...PLEASE be careful on the street.

your 17 and your parent jut decided to buy you an evo?? wtf is this world coming to... sorry my man, you should be driving what i drove when i was 17, a 1989 buick riveria. and guess what!!! i crashed it, acting stupid, tryin to impress my friends. im 21 and still no where nneeaarrr affording an evo, esp. still being in college. nor do i want one at this time in my life.

in this situation, i agree with JDMevoBOOST. no matter how much i make, my kids will NOT be gettin a fast car for their first car (and im not implying the evo is your first car, im just sayin 17=waaayyyyyy to young to be having a car as fast as an evo)

and one other thing. please dont bs everyone here and say, o im gonna keep it safe on the streets. please man, your 17, you have a ~250whp vehicle, you will be driving fast.... i know, i was once your age...

I personally find it funny. In my honest opinion, I wouldnt care if I saw a 16 year old with a Ferarri. Because it just doesnt matter. It WAS NOT their fault they were born in a wealthy family. For the "Older" guys, what if you guys were born a little later and your parents had lots of money and they bought you an Evo? I bet you'd be happy as hell regardless what people say. This is just one of those kids that was born into a wealthy family, dont hate him for it for reals...Its seriously not his fault. He wanted an Evo, and he got it. Thats final....
It's a not a matter of wealth; it's a matter of parental/personal responsibility. The Evo is a lot of car to handle. For the life of me I cannot imagine how someone with limited seat time can pilot the Evo at speed safely. When I was very young, I would have killed for a car like the Evo. Thankfully, I had responsible parents who limited my access. Otherwise, I can assure you that I'd be long dead or injured for life after wrapping the Evo around a tree. An incident not unlike the one that recently happened here with a kid in a WRX. He's dead.

I'm saying this under the assumption that a young Evo driver is a high-performance driving enthusiast. If not and it's a matter of filling a desire to look like one, then drive whatever you want for all I care. Just stay out of my way.
