im 16, just got an evo 8
I am pretty impressed, there aren't as many "16 year olds are losers" stuff goin on as there used to be... EvoM is really stepping up.
I had an S2k when I was 16, got the Evo when I was 18, and got the Porsche when I was 21. The S2k was my dad's car, technically, but I drove it all the time and he didn't care. We started auto-x together 2 weeks after I got my license and it just went crazy from there. The other two cars are mine, with a little help from high school and college grad money and the perks of living at home. But I fully admit I made A LOT of stupid mistakes in the S2K and did even get in an accident once in it. I'm not saying this because I care what insurance is for an Evo, or if another Evo wing is the only thing to survive. I'm saying this because I know how bad you feel when something happens to your car when its this great: Be VERY careful! You hit a pole in a parking lot and it will ruin your day, I promise.

Congrats on the car. 3 things:
1. Keep it stock
2. No matter what>Ignore anyone that wants to street race (realize that youre driving an evo and that you dont need to prove them)
3. Get a radar detector
ps. Ive got a 250 dollar value TurboSmart Blow Off valve that and will sell you for 150 dollars.
let me know. Good luck with the car and BE CAREFUL!

When i got my license, my parents made me to this "defensive driving course"
And Some Racing Courses, and crash preventive courses.
Took about 5-6 months, but i guess it'll be worth it in the end....
A lot of people think a 16 year old can't handle an evo, but they think every 16 year old is as stupid as they where.
Yah, were kids, but some of us know how to respect a car, and understand what it's capable of, and what your skill level can accomplish.
And for any 16 year old out there, if you wanna race, take it to the track.

You can come on here a say your not going to race and this and that, but its complete bull****.There are guys alot older then you that street race, and your going to tell me or the community that your all more mature to resist the urge.
Another thing, try and get insurance, just try. The evo is rated higher then a corvette. Iam 24 with a clean record and i still pay 3k+ year, wait untill mommy and daddy find this out and bye bye evo. btw I hope you don't wreck your evo when you get it, im sure you'll be under your parents insurance. If you do wreck it there is a chance the person you hit might sue the hell outta you, and mommy and daddy will be the ones hurting.
My advice is buy a civic si, beat the **** out of it, save money and go to college and better yourself. Or buy a old dsm, if you wreck it what have you lost. a 5k car
These cars aren't rockets. It's not that kids can't handle the power, they can't handle the responisbility of keeping it safe on the road. When I was young I had a DSM that put my *** in check and I've had plenty of friends who have had to learn the hard way (accidents, hospitals & death).
Put 400hp into an unsuspecting sedan and kids will be less likely to crash it because they won't be tempted to race at every stop light or everytime they are on the highway.

Im 16, just got a 2003 evolution VIII, im pretty new to the evos, i just got one as my second car(its a pretty big step up from a 93 civic hb lol). I just wanted 2 no some helpful tips about the cars, and was wondering if i should do any mods.(i was thinking of getting a bov first.) thanx
as i sit here with a smirk on my face i have to admit something is extremely annoying when i read about a 16 year old who has an evolution and what this may mean for the car, and other evolution drivers as well as car insurance...

these car are not rockets but they can be, a few mods here and there make a big difference then a civic.
you had a dsm when you were young that put you into check?, hmm and you think a evo is something a 16 year old can handle.
wrong you put 400hp in anything and they take their 400hp car to school and brag all day long. Then school lets out and hello street racing, because now they have to prove that their car has that much power. come on people think for crying out loud, im 24 and i still remember what went on back in highschool. the parties were alcohol was involved, iam sure these things still happen.

Kids don't crash these cars cause they are fast, they crash these cars because they are tempted to prove that they are fast. If kids drove their EVO's like they Toyota Camry's they wouldn't end up sideways wrapped around a tree in the daily newspaper. The maturity level is what matters most, not the car.
BTW, I never said the EVO is a good choice for a 16 year old. I don't even think 16 year olds should be allowed to drive let alone drive an EVO.
