Please follow Boltz's advice copied below. I'm 30 years old, and I know you don't want to hear advice being shoved down your throat because your only 16 years old, but the advice is very valuable. I did a HPDE course through NASA a month ago, and it was well worth it. I'll do another next month. Play it smart. Spend your money on learning how to drive the car. It is so much more rewarding. I know you're not buying it, but it's the truth. I'll leave you with one last thought. Amongst my group of car friends of about eight guys, three people have had serious accidents, and two friend's of a friend have passed away. Be careful.
You guys are *******s. At 16, the evo is more than you can handle. I understand that you are probably itching like mad to start modding the car but I URGE you not to.
First invest money into a weekend doing HPDE through NASA or some other sanctioning body that rents out tracks and provides instructors that ride along so you can learn from. You need to learn how to handle the car at the limit before you throw on a bunch of mods and go for a drive with friends to show off and end up destroying the car, your life or the life of others.
You probably won't want to swallow what I am saying but if you want to do it right, then listen.
It really is a beast of a car. Enjoy it as is, learn to drive it as is and then after and only after you get a chance to race it on the track start deciding which aspects of its performance you would like to improve on whether it be grip, power, brakes, suspension, etc.
Putting a BOV on your evo as a first mod is asking for a downward spiral of rice-modding that will lead to a beat up, improperly modded evo that you will end up selling, and will end up at a dealership (like most other used evos) for some other poor sucker to buy.
If you have any other SPECIFIC questions, you can feel free to PM me as I most likely will not see this thread again.
Enjoy

i had a s2k for a first car when i was sixteen, only dmg i did to it was driving it out of a driveway accidently rubin the fender against a steel pole( big blind spot) then later on move onto the evo.
I'm 17 and have an evo8 that is decently modded running 19psi and I seem to drive it just fine. Car has about 350 horse to it and tuned for minimal lag from previous owner. But the thing is when you drop $20,000 out of your own pocket you won't go around driving like an ***hole because all of your hard work, pride, and joy is in that car and if you total it or get into an accident then what? There is 20k gone at the age of 17. I think it all depends on who is driving the car. You can get someone who just rips their car daily and drives like an idiot, those are the kids who you see in the newspapers who hit a tree but you can have people who drive their cars cuz they love the car and have fun driving it and know that the time to race is on the track and those are the people who take care of their car and know what to do. Just be careful man. Your friends are gonna want you to race all the time and drive fast believe me it happens to me all the time because of what i drive but just be smart man. And if someone pulls up to you at a light and starts revving their civic or their mustang you rev back and show him that you know your car can beat his and when the light goes green and he takes off like a jacka** you just cruise along and i guarentee you that will make him more mad then losing the race. Drive safe.

I think most people on this site paid for our cars out of our own pockets..................... .......................and I drive like a f'n *** hole.
Honestly, I'm 16, praying to get an evo.
When i got my license, my parents made me to this "defensive driving course"
And Some Racing Courses, and crash preventive courses.
Took about 5-6 months, but i guess it'll be worth it in the end....
A lot of people think a 16 year old can't handle an evo, but they think every 16 year old is as stupid as they where.
Yah, were kids, but some of us know how to respect a car, and understand what it's capable of, and what your skill level can accomplish.
And for any 16 year old out there, if you wanna race, take it to the track.
