I really hate it when people bash people's age saying that they can't handle the power and what not. Like in the previous posts, they are either jealous or just worry about you. But, guess what? I'm 18 and, and I am currently driving a CLK 550. If anyone has driven it, they would know it's a fast car. I can handle that much power, I think I could handle a stock evo. Sure, I don't pay for it, but that's not my problem. And no, I'm not one of those "rich" bastard - just very conservative with our money. In a few months, I'll get an evo 9 too.

Edit to below: What I meant was they are jealous since they did not received an evo when they were16-20, but since the evo didn't exist in the states back then for the 20's and 30's, maybe the supra or fd could substitute. Moreover, I never once said that I was God and an insanely good driver because all I said was that I could "handle" it. Sure, I don't pay for the benz because it's exactly as you said. "you are driving you daddy's car," but I'll pay for the evo since I already have 15k ready. Finally, I'm getting a scholarship for college, there's no worry for college tuition, and am making 25kish a year. Sure, I drive "insane" sometimes, but don't we all? "it isn't until life slaps them across the face that they realize they aren't invincible and actually know nothing." Don't worry about that because I've went through that experience, and I was scared ****less. Driving 120ish an inch of from another bumper tire screeching is scary. I know I have a lot of growing up to do since I'm only 18 plus practice makes perfect, but that's for everyone too since you never stop growing up because life is unpredictable. I agree with you one bit about the teenager part, though, because many kids whom I know think they are god and die, but there is a small portion who actually something about life. Every year there's at least one senior who dies on the same road because his/her parents bought them a fast car. It happened in my family too, and I've too many cases like that. I know that I won't be like that.

I'm sorry but I actually laughed at this. First off, every teenager thinks they are god and can handle anything thrown at them, it isn't until life slaps them across the face that they realize they aren't invincible and actually know nothing. Secondly, that jealous argument is retarded, most of the people responding have jobs, cars, their own houses, etc. and certainly wouldn't be jealous of some kid who's still at mommy's teet (figure of speech). Thirdly, you are driving daddy's car, until you actually buy one yourself, you have no right to talk about responsibility and things of that sort and given your statement "I don't pay for it but that's not my problem" you have a lot of growing up to do.

He already got the car, whatever. Just don't do stupid things like race to the nearest mcdonalds from your school when you come out of the parking lot. That's what happens around here.
Agreed, And dito..

Please dont do ANYTHING stupid.. just think before you "let that guy speed past you" or something.. Is it worth your life? or the car you worked so hard to get

Not trying to come off rude or anything like that, but look at your age right now, and what car you're driving. Many can't even afford a car like that at age 40, so you shouldn't act like it's no big deal.

I'd like to think that most 16 year olds can HANDLE evos, but they cannot resist the temptation to race it. You have to be one hell of a bad driver to not be able to stay away from non moving objects when normally driving. The reason why many are suggesting to not get an evo that young is simply because they're GOING to go fast, and controlling the evo at much faster speeds is a different story. Why would you buy an evo for a DD if you aren't going to drive it fast? And with that said, 16 year olds do not belong behind the wheel of an evo.

My main objection is related to how good of a car an evo or an STi is. They are very easy to drive fast, meaning that when something does go wrong, it's huge. If you have 120 hp going through two wheels, you can't really push the car too much before it gives out. When you have closer to 300 hp and AWD, you can go all out with the car so when it gives, your dead. Look at real race cars, they don't have tiny accidents where they hit a wall at 5 mph, they hit them at 100 mph.

Wait are you agreeing with me or the opposite?

It's BECAUSE the evo is so easy to drive fast, a 16 year old most likely won't be able to control his urge to do so, eventually leading to accidents.

drive careful but have fun, take your car to the 1/4 by you or local autox events if you want to drive fast and test the limits of your car, i'm sure many people said that in posts before mine, oh well...

I also got my first evo when i was 16 turning 17 it was kind of the trend , turbo cars. I got my evo my friend got a tt supra another turbo's his del sol , another got a turbo mr2 and my cousin got an srt-4. None of use really reamed the cars all the time around corners and what not . I mean yea we raced kepy our reps up on the streets or the tracks i mean were young.. thats what we did but surprisingly i was the only one to wreck and why!?!?! because some girl cut me of when i was on an access road i was driving normally , ironic eh?,ya there was no where to go so it was totaled. Got bite by the evo bug and bought a brand new evo 9 my senior year in hs and been wrenching on it ever since , i drive under the speed limit in it im like a grandpa ... at 18. Alota ppl stero type o bla bla he's 16 he'll wreck well partially true alot of people do wreck cars at 16 but you know what helps being responsible don't wreck it keep it learn then upgrade the crap outa it when you've mastered it stock.

I don't like to get into the age thing too much but I know retarted people that let the power get to them and they put them into guard rails and trash em. Just be careful and don't listen to your friends.
i think he should do whatever he wants. he's 16 and there's no better way to learn about anything at that age, but by trial and error. besides, mature & sixteen...oximoron? heh.

LMAO. Older people make me laugh. I've driven cars with way more power than the evo. This car has power but people make it seem like there's a jet engine under the hood. Like only the 40 year olds and up can control this car. Btw every single mod ive done to my car came out of my pocket. Parents didnt do anything but sign when i bought my car. Oh and i work at a family buisness which isnt involved with mom and dad's money. Older people HATE because when they were our age they drove wooden cars with no tires. Homos.

Because my guess is, it's mommy and daddy's. I'm interested in hearing what you do at 17 that pays for the car, gas, insurance (which is the highest on these cars) and then left over money for a 5k + turbo kit. I'm 19, work my *** off on top of school, and can BARLEY afford my RA.

Sorry if this offends anyone other than the poster, but I can't stand cocky kids my age or younger that mistake their parents money for their own.

Lol, yeah that must be it, all us older (can't believe I'm considered that) people are jealous of a bunch of 16 year olds with rich parents. There's more to life than money, maybe when you get to be an older person you'll understand. As I said before, the problem isn't the power, it's knowing having the maturity to use it right and not go beyond your limits, not the cars. Do a search in the crashed threads, you'll see what I'm talking about.
