im new to the forum but not to turbos or Evos and yeah roadspike does seem to know his stuff but EBCs are ALWAYS better than MBCs for many reasons. MBCs are cheaper and by looking at his mod list thats what he likes to do...things cheap. All I have to say is you get what you pay for.

ebcs are not always better. just because something is more expensive does not always make it better. Ive heard about a lot of ebcs causing spikes and boost creeps. My hallman mbc works great. Holds 18 psi strong to redline. Only thing EBC can do better is allow to adjust boost when the temp changes but its not that hard to open your hood and adjust your mbc when temp changes as well.

I just got my AEM TRU-BOOST installed last night and it is so cool!!! I used to have the Hallman Pro mbc, but now I would highly advise you to get an ebc and not an mbc....It works much better. Choose the AEM TRU-BOOST if possible. A website called "boostcontrollerstore.com" sells it for $268.95 - a $10.00 discount = $258.95+shipping. It worked out awesome for me. ***My Evo is tuned at 25 psi***

guys thanks for all the responses but my question isnt getting answered(i dont think)

Is there no way to up boost w/out a boost controller? if not then question answered. If there is a way to tune boost up to a safe but higher then stock level, why wouldnt I do just that and scratch the controller from my wish list?

You could look into the ECU-based direct boost control mod. This would allow you to control boost without a MBC.
